  1. Shola might have reverted back to being shite again when he returns from injury. He had the odd purple patch when we were in the Premiership. I agree that none of our strikers are currently Premiership standard. It's not like any of them have been prolific, regular goal scorers in the Championship so far.
  2. Att: 42,616 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/8374981.stm
  3. Duff's been more productive at Fulham so far than he was in his entire Newcastle career.
  4. Another game where my feeling at the end was relief rather than elation that we'd won. Most of our games so far this season have been dirges. The Championship seems very poor. We're top and I'd say we've been awful in a lot of games and yet still won. I've read a few interviews with Newcastle players where they've said they haven't had to hit top gear yet. Well pull your bloody finger out and do so and we might actually win games more comfortably!
  5. Only thing I don't like is his long kicks to the strikers which invariably go to the opposition (although I'm sure he's told to do them by the manager). Why do we never play it short to a defender or midfielder?
  6. Agree with that article. All he's saying is that if we get promoted we haven't got anything to look forward to next season unless Mike Ashley sells quickly. We all know if he doesn't we'll be lucky to stay up.
  7. I find it hard to believe anyone could spend their entire £75K a week salary most weeks. As far as I know Martins didn't own 20+ cars and residences. That's some mighty fine dining he must have done to get through that sort of money. Is 'Brewster's Millions' Martins' favourite film? It would be nigh on impossible to spend it all. He'd have to buy a Ferrari/Lamborghini/Aston Martin every two weeks or a home every month. I can't believe it's true.
  8. Agree. If we get promoted it sounds like we are preparing to come straight back down. Long term deals to less than great players. If we get promoted we'd need to buy almost a whole new team of higher quality players to stay up.
  9. For anyone saying "yes" it would be interesting to hear why you think that.
  10. Once again there is a lot of talk about Celtic & Rangers being allowed to join the Premiership. I don't think they should be for the following reasons: - They are Scottish clubs so why should they play in England? Both clubs have done nothing to make the Premiership what it is today so why should they get the benefits of it at the expense of two English clubs? The Scottish Premiership don't want them to leave. A large number of their fans cause trouble whenever they come to England. I can't imagine the Police being happy about Celtic & Rangers playing in England more or less every week. The friendlies Newcastle have held against Celtic & Rangers over the last few years has always resulted in a large number of their fans acting like scum in the city. They hate the English and treat trips to England as 'raiding parties'. The distances away fans would have to travel. We don't want their religious politics in our league.
  11. A footballer earning £20K+ a week wouldn't have too much problem buying any car or house cash, especially one who's been in the Premiership most of their career. Everyone knows a footballer's career is usually over around the mid-30s if not ended earlier by injury. The length of their career and the mega sums of money they earn cannot be compared to people who earn in a year (if their lucky) what a footballer earns in a week. So if you earned £50K a week you'd spend £50K a week? Fact is Ashton has earned more at 25 than most of us will in our whole lives. If he hasn't financially prepared himself for a future without his current level of income I have no sympathy.
  12. Not a pleasant thing for the Train Driver or those who had to clean up the aftermath either.
  13. That's his stupid fault then. All players should know football is a short career.
  14. Not necessarilly. Not necessarily what? If he's not a multi-millionaire I'd be very surprised. A mediocre player at a middling Premiership team would more than likely earn well over £2m in 2 years. He was a rated striker so I'd guess he was earning more than a mediocre player.
  15. I read about this last week, assumed it had already been posted. West Ham must be the only club to have worse luck with injured players than Newcastle (having said that, they did buy our crocks like Dyer). A pity for Ashton but he's still a multi-millionaire at 25 so his cloud has a silver lining.
  16. Geremi is worthless in so far as he is paid something like £60k a week and is out of contract at the end of the season. No club would pay him those wages and I very much doubt he'd be willing to leave before the end of his contract without it being paid up. If anything Newcastle would probably have to pay to get rid of him.
  17. Ignoring the poppy stuff, if Celtic are a Scottish club made up of Irish fans they can fuck off if they think they are going to join the ENGLISH premiership one day. Go and join the Irish Premiership.
  18. So you think if we get promoted Mike Ashley will go on a spending spree to keep us in the Premiership? He didn't do that last January so why think he'd do it in the future? I can't see NUFC being sold for a while. There are only a certain number of rich sheiks or American billionaires in the world.
  19. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/6488300/Michel-Platini-who-would-be-stupid-enough-to-buy-Manchester-United-or-Chelsea.html Can't say I disagree with his view. A lot of Premiership and La Liga clubs run on massive debt where as the German league doesn't allow any debt. Newcastle would have been better off today if clubs were only allowed to spend what they earn. Our fan base income would have kept us miles ahead of the likes of Bolton, Wigan, etc.
  20. I can only imagine they had no interest from potential advertisers so decided to show advertisers how it would work. "Associating your name with St James' Park would work like "sportsdirect.com@St James' Park Stadium", except without the angry fan protests and ridicule."
  21. My main reason for posting the question was Beye. I'd heard he wasn't playing much at Aston Villa. Going from being one of the Newcastle fans favourite players to barely getting a game must be strange for him.
  22. I'm now 100% certain Ashley does all these crazy things he does on purpose to spite the fans.
  23. How are the players who left Newcastle in the January 2009 and Summer 2009 transfer windows doing at their new clubs? Shay Given - Manchester City Charles N'Zogbia - Wigan Athletic Michael Owen - Manchester United Mark Viduka - Retired? Obafemi Martins - Wolfsburg Sebastien Bassong - Tottenham Hotspur Habib Beye - Aston Villa Damien Duff - Fulham Xisco - Racing Santander (Loan) Now we're not in the Premiership I'm not following it closely but the people who seem to have done well are Given, Bassong and Duff (and possibly Owen). Am I wrong in thinking Martins and Beye are mainly being used as substitutes? I can't imagine that is what they were expecting.
  24. Colo and Simpson almost certainly back but doubts over S.Taylor.
  25. His contract ends at the end of this season. I can't see him getting a new contract (he may not even want one and may want to retire) based on his wages and the fact that he is well past his best. Even Hughton seems to have him behind Smith, Nolan, Guthrie and probably Barton now.
