  1. ST for my local club cost me roughly 30 pounds this year It's ridiculous. For this much money, I think I'd just keep buying one as a yearly donation to the club even if I were overseas and unable to attend matches.
  2. You'd certainly hope that he's already far too good for league one given that he's started two games for us.
  3. Great news. Hope he does better than the last few players we loaned to the Championship.

    Alan Pardew

Who says everything needs to be played on the floor anyway? Efficiently set up teams can do both. Like us.
  5. Honestly, the first thing they need is a competent manager who isn't an angry, narrow-minded, past-it troll.
  6. Ah right, yeah there's no chance of us spending £20 million+ in any transfer window, let alone this summer. The CL money will fix that.
  7. Just realized I won't be able to see this because I'll be taking LSATs on Sunday morning. Stupid game couldn't have been on a Sunday.

    Harry Redknapp

This is good news lads. Means the FA won't steal Pards off us

    Danny Guthrie

FFS. He was at Liverpool before us and had a couple of loans. I'm really glad he's playing as he is. I did find it quite strange how last season was such a non-event for him, he'd been such a pivotal player in the promotion season and I wasn't with these people who said he wasn't a Premier League player. It looked like the Premiership was too fast, strong and athletic for him. Whereas you do get more time and space in the Championship. Danny has excellent technical ability, especially for a British midfielder. And this season he's worked on his conditioning and has shown for more desire for the game. Disagree, I think the Championship is played at a ridiculous tempo, it's kick and rush and a lot of in your face tackling. It's not like. It's slower physically, mentally and technically. It's nowhere near as quick as the top flight and you get far more time and space - anybody with an ounce of technique thrives down there. Look at how many goals/assists people like Taarabt and Wittingham plunder. You only have to be above average with the ball and you'll p*ss the division. The amount of times we would gift possession away and not be punished was ridiculous too. Fair points. Perhaps it is the constant mistakes and rushed playing style of most players in that league that make it seem like the game is going at a million miles an hour. I don't watch it that much nowadays TBF. Still guilty of gifting possesion away too often now. Blackburn and Villa nearly gave me a coronary Jonas looked like Messi in that division. Just so piss easy for him to keep the ball.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Even if pass completion actually had a strong correlation with "good football" (I suspect it might not,) putting Ben Arfa in the team really wouldn't improve our pass completion rate.
  11. Series went to shit immediately after it left Newcastle, just like Andy Carroll's career.
  12. Necro-ing old threads is always worth a hoot.
  13. I try to convince myself otherwise but common sense indicates that he's gone in the summer if we don't actually finish fourth. With his current numbers the "top teams" wouldn't leave him alone even if he didn't have a release clause. With his release clause? We've probably got a pile of bids stacked up in front of the fax machine already. Suppose it's best not to dwell on it and just enjoy what we have while we have it.

    Alan Smith

How glad are we that James Perch is our CM option when we're down to bare bones instead of Alan Smith?
  17. We got a draw at Old Trafford, no reason to think that we're not capable of getting something here.
  18. The excuse would be not spending until we've played the qualifier. Given the sneaky, underhanded way we usually operate, I'd think we'd try to get as many players in as possible under the pretense of CL football before we played the qualifier. whats sneaky or underhanded ? Not literally sneaky or underhanded, but we do try to take advantage of everything little thing we can.

    Alan Pardew

Thing is, we're where we are right now because of the things that Pardew is good at. We could get a manager that's better at certain things, but there'd be no guarantee that we'd keep the strengths we already have. I reckon we could probably get a more tactically astute manager from somewhere, but would the new manager would command the respect of the players or be capable of working with Ashley and Llambias like Pardew? In any venture "right fit" is sometimes more important than objective ability, and there's no doubting that Pardew is the right fit for the club at the moment. Wouldn't trade him for anyone at this point. God knows I don't trust Ashley to make another managerial appointment.
  20. The main problem with Santon at LB right now is that Jonas is right-footed too, so we have no actual crossing threat from the left side. Wouldn't be that bothered if we had a natural left-footed winger playing alongside him. Then again, in the long term I'd probably move Santon to the right before I moved Jonas.

  22. Always with the Koreans. I talk about what I know man Couldn't tell you the first thing about Phillip Lahm's abilities and deficiencies so I won't even try.
  23. I don't care how much ability he has, he's never going to amount to much with that terrible attitude. It's blatantly never going to work out with him and an "angry old man" type of manager like McLeish. Reckon Martinez probably managed him fairly well at Wigan. (The "velvet glove" approach, as Roeder used to call it.) I can imagine him being a poisonous influence in any dressing room. Ultimately glad we let him go and glad we didn't re-sign him. May he wander through a heap of mid-table clubs for the remainder of his career.
  24. I obviously don't have a clue as to what's really the case, just theorizing as to why left-back might be his preferred position. Maybe this lad is just bad at crossing and better at cutting inside? If his crosses aren't that accurate anyway there wouldn't be much of an advantage to having him on the right hugging the touchline. Lee Young-Pyo was one of the best players to ever play for South Korea, and he was a right-footed left-back that was terrible at right-back. He had the same problem: great running with the ball at his feet but not much crossing ability.
  25. Just suspend your disbelief for a moment and imagine what the build-up to summer would be like if we actually finished 4th. We could replace "The Carroll Money" with a brand new concept: "The CL Money"
