Please let it be Gervinho. Just looking through their squad (Lille), they have a few canny players. Would be happy with any of Gervinho, Cabaye , Hazard and possibly Rio Mavuba (seems to have found his way again after his Villareal spell). he'll be going for a fortune man, one of the next big things...watched some of his goals on YT recently and man they're good - some of them i can barely work out how he did it, looks quality on that evidence [Dennis Wise - tastic]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League_Manager_of_the_Year good luck roy, one 'unusual suspect' since the thing began...hope he wins the fucker EDIT: 'the fucker' being the uefa cup as england's governing body will never recognise anything other than winning the same thing with shedloads of money year in year out as it benefits their TV deals to do so

this is kind of what i'd gleaned from reading (i know, i know) about this season overall and what i thought of hughton from what i saw last season my preference would be for the people in, ahem, charge to have a progressive longer-term target in their minds and go out get him in the summer then back him to the hilt - which they'll neither have nor do therefore we'd be fuckin stupid to do anything other than stick with hughton really, unless as cp40 says it gets to a position where him staying is untenable early doors in the season

Yes malandro is entitled to form and express his own opinions of course, but with his kind of approach it begs the question, how much time/patience will Hughton get from the faithful next season should things not get off to the best of starts? We've been crying out a long time for a young ambitious manager who we could give time to build a squad here, and I think Hughton deserves a real go of things the way he has handled himself, Ashley and the players this season. If people with malandro's opinion on Hughton outnumber those who support him, it would worry me more than Hughton's credentials as a PL manager. what makes you think hughton is young and ambitious, or has the ability to build a squad worthy of the club? just interested what makes you think he isn't ? i didn't say i thought that! it was a genuine question, i've been very isolated from all things NUFC this season i'm afraid so was wondering i'd say that he had virtually no positive effect on results and performances last season when in charge so he's either developing into a manager (not unheard of) or the players are simply carrying themselves through a shit league and we'll be back to square one when they're faced with more quality next season or something in between?

Great quote from Ronaldinho about Messi I saw in today's Telegraph: [On receiving the Ballon d’Or in 2006] “This award says I’m the best player in the world, but I’m not even the best player at Barcelona.”

Oh Peter Reid is monkeyhead... so much to learn still... Consider this part of your continued education. this is infectious, need it as my ringtone now!!!

I'm not sure about that. When Maradona went to Napoli were'nt they a nothing team? And then they retired the number 10 after he left because of how much they loved him. slightly before my time, but not really what i'm getting at: since Maradona took over, in fact before that, has there been a more mismanaged group of talented players on the international scene? their qualifying campaign was a disaster and they were perhaps lucky to scrape it in the end, a lot of their struggles were down to misuse of Messi amongst many others, i.e. playing Messi, Tevez & Aguero upfront and hoofing the ball up to them if they build a team around him playing the same game he does for barca, which they've got the players for, they should be virtually unstoppable but i don't think they will
-
Messi's problem is going to be he's in the form of his life NOW but headed into a world cup with a talented Argentina, but one that is likely to be in total disarray i think Maradona will fuck Messi's chances of carrying them to the world cup as his own ego will win over common sense winning the WC, performing on the big stage etc. is all well and good as a means to judge someone but one player cannot literally carry a team if that team is an utter shambles - when Pele/Maradonna managed their feat(s) they were at least surrounded by competence at worst, but really quality i just get the impression Maradona will fuck it up for the lad, which would be a real shame i also think Rooney being in the form he's in could have a great world cup but with Fergie flogging him like a dead horse he's likely to have little left by the time the WC comes around and will be going some to keep carrying England right throughout the summer

what about people who just say it's fucking shite? like me

not heard this before - by far and away the simplest and most workable solution to an obvious problem can't be challenged either like an enforced salary cap/spend limit perhaps could...uefa spread the money out between everyone, usual suspects can have fuck all to say about it still, never happen, pity
