If De Jong plays as a #10 we would need two players to play deep, one playmaker type and one ballwinner type. If we play 4-3-3 De Jong doesn't fit anywhere other than as the striker.

but that goal wasn't created as a result of some great tactical managerial masterstroke, it was right out of the pardew school of "throw bodies on and hope something will change", and as we've spent 4 years finding out it works sometimes but more often than not it will not work the better solution would have been abeid in to control the midfield and stick with the formation and tactics we'd played the last few games instead of totally upsetting the tiny bit of rhythm they did have Carver's never going to produce anything approacing intelligent, let alone a masterstroke (which he showed by taking off Cabella). But Obertan has useful qualities and I think it would have made sense to take off Sammy, switch Cabella and then have Obertan on the right. Different challenge for each of the tired fullbacks.

Christ, one slightly poor game and he's being villified. Sense of perspective eh? Clearly one of our better players.
-
The guy's decision making when he has anything more than one option is horrific. He must be thick to the point of retardation. But there's clearly a talented footballer in there capable of impacting a game as we've seen it. So damned annoying.
-
Are people forgetting that Obertan did create our goal? Anyway, it clearly should have been Sammy to come off with Cabella sliding over.

Sissoko has always struggled when playing as a deeper CM, he really isn't a good defensive player at all. An Abeid-Sissoko-De Jong triumvirate has disaster written all over it.

Didn't think it warranted a second yellow personally, Mark Hughes can go fist himself. Colback is better than Anita, but ultimately they are both fairly average.

If The Sun (newspaper) was a person if would be Harry Redknapp. Odious fucking turd of a human.
-
It's better than with Pardew simply because it's more positive, but the guy is clearly too thick to be any kind of success. In terms of subs, he was going 4-4-2 and Cabella is (wrongly) seen as just a wide forward or #10. I can at least rationalise with Carvers logic, even if I don't agree with it, and still think he's shite.

This is no different to what Watford have done from Udinese etc. Couldn't give a toss about Rangers and I fully expect our 5 lads are far better than the utter dross in their squad. 38 year old Lee McCulloch ffs.

Lets be fair, Santon was a liability for much of his time here, and should really be playing at right back. Saying that, allowing him to leave is madness when he can cover both fullback positions (plus CM if you believe the $tat$).

Better. But lets be honest, Hull are awful.
-
They've just made Gouff look like Hazard
-
You know him like?

from £20 put in at the end of november, now up to £440 on a mixture of football and horses.
-
TCD is right about Santon, such an annoying player to watch. The amount of times we conceded far post goals when he let his man run..
-
When he talks he reminds me totally of Mike Bassett. Garbage.

There's honestly very little between Colback and Anita, having them both in the same team is a recipe for failure.
-
No he doesn't. The ball is 40 yards from goal. It's as simple as that. Pelle is no threat there with his back to goal and the ball in the air. It only becomes dangerous once Coloccini neglects the back line that he should be marshalling, and attempts to win a ball he has no chance of winning, thus leaving us one short at the back. Seriously it's a schoolboy error to the nth degree. Colo (Or Dummett) should be touch tight with Pelle when he comes deep, simple. That's the mistake there. But you cannot left a centre forward bring the ball down on his chest surrounded by no-one, under no pressure within 40 yards of our goal. Also, we weren't one short at the back as they only had Elia there?
-
At the risk of agreeing with TCD, Colo does have to go for that ball. The problem is that Pelle has managed to get away from whichever CB should have been on him, so has got a 5 yard headstart. Anita has then let JWP wander off him and Janmaat has let Elia run off him. It's a combination of 4/5 players all making small mistakes, probably down to Carver not looking at the small details.

McClaren is the best English coach around. But would prefer Tuchel or Garde.

I'm tired of watching this gutless bottler play in our midfield. The amount of times he pulls out of 50/50's or loses out is staggering for a central midfielder. This isn't some Pardew esque tripe about work rate or battling but the guy simply doesn't seem to have the heart for it.

Southampton have got a boatload of players missing as well, remember how clinical they were versus us and the mackems at home.
