I’ve read many times that the players stopped truly believing and that this or that was the turning point. We blew it several times, had we won at home to Man U we’d have been home and dry but we played well, it was performances at Wimbledon, Man C and West Ham where we were either poor or too sloppy that annoy me more. We shouldn’t have lost at Liverpool and should have won at Blackburn (in fact win at Blackburn and we’d still have won it). We should have won at Forest but it was kind of gone by then. An extra 3 points going into the last game was all we needed, god knows how we didn’t get them. But, despite all the above, we’d have won it regardless had it not been for one player. Cantona went on an unbelievable scoring run in consecutive games towards the end of the season and single handedly got the points that won the league. I remember so many times 2nd half goals popping up on Sky Sports where Cantona had scored. An equaliser against QPR still grates.

Virtual Press Conference, get it right.

Bloke I know at the club says they’re being furloughed and that they’ve been told not to answer any questions about anything. He says he also got the impression that other things may be going on.

God only knows how we didn’t win anything around that time. Add a quality keeper and say Colin Hendry and we’d have been some side.

I believe they agreed to play a few friendlies with us to help us raise funds when we were in our formative years and they were the big I am (according to RTG). What isn’t mentioned is that around 1913 when they were League Champions they were in serious financial trouble and a Director of NUFC acted as guarantor for what was a substantial sum. The Director was a former player of Sunderland’s Team of all Talents but the fact remains NUFC has saved SAFC before now. NUFC should do as much as they can to help all NE clubs big and small to survive this. All PL clubs should act together on this. Deal with the fallout and any new financial restrictions later.

Fuck sake didn’t realise Best was clearly onside. Also thought Nolan’s late effort was closer (still close mind)

Come on, just found ESPN are showing this live. Michelob and Magnums ready.

I’ll be on holiday in Jupiter’s Landing, hope some USA channel are showing it and I turn the tv on just in time to see the aerial helicopter shot and hear the CL anthem. That’d be unreal.

Can anyone get the Leicester 7-1 first half, Norwich 4-3 second half or Barnsley last 10 minutes? Inter Milan at the San Siro would be canny as would the Feyenoord game.

Donating all the pies (1200) and hospitality food for tomorrow’s match to the West End food bank. Fair play, fancy Steve might just trouser a few if the pies.

Surely they’ll suspend the league now, why delay, it’s going to have to happen at some point anyway.

Great header, scored a belter on his debut against Soton for us.

They’ve stopped all foreign scouting trips. Mike will be pleased.

Spurs really are all over the place defensively.

Maddison is a cheating twat mind, he stopped quickly waiting for the contact. It’s what fraudsters do to get whiplash claims.
-
Shouldn’t really compare Gayle to Joelinton, 1 is a centre forward, the other isn’t.

Blyth are confident that they’ll stay up regardless because of those ground issues. I’d heard that Clark was in the running for the NUFC U23 job but pulled out as they couldn’t match the money he was on at Blyth (very reliable source). Not sure how that all fits together but there you go.

Thought he was poor again and gives away far too many silly free kicks. Another ref might have given him a 2nd yellow last night.

IPlayer keeps crashing - rubbish

They don't pretend to be anything else. If Bruce openly said he is a long ball merchant, then I could respect him more. Took it to a new level yesterday, it was like watching Rugby Union sides exchanging kicks to see who could gain the most ground interspersed with a bit head tennis. Nick Pope took the wrong club out of bag at one point in the first half and booted the ball about 50 yards forward and 15 rows back into the Milburn Paddock.
-
Has anybody commented on Burnley yet? I can’t remember a team constantly hoofing the ball as far forward as they could then they did, and that includes Stoke and Wimbledon. Even when they played the ball across the back they generally ended up just booting it forward. We’re stinking the league out but they need to go. I felt sorry for the ball after the first 15 minutes, it was getting howked all over the place.

Lump on, lack of goals will take us down.

He looked far more comfortable but all that does is emphasise that we’ve paid way over the odds for a bang average wide player who we gambled we could make into a centre forward because of his size (and age). Awful transfer, don’t blame the player.
