There’s definitely a player in there. His confidence is shot to pieces and his performances have deteriorated. He’s a young lad in a poor side and he’s not been given any run of games as we can’t afford to carry any passengers. We paid for potential, it’s far too early to write him off. It’s a shame that our squad is so poor that we can’t really loan him out.

You could be forgiven for thinking that each and every one of these interested consortiums are a bunch of chancers without a pot to piss in, looking to raise funds through loans, saddle the club with debt and have a 4 or 5 year plan to move the club on again at a profit and increased debt. The whole situation is thoroughly depressing, I’ve no doubt that Ashley wants to sell and he couldn’t give a shit whether any buyer has the funds to even sustain current levels of investment just as long as they are able to raise the cash to meet his price. We drew 2 games and lost to Spurs at SJP and then got beaten heavily by Villa away. That was the end of that. He was hounded out by a section of fans and then the board who’d gotten greedy for CL money. The vocal minority of fans didn’t get Robson sacked, fans were booing the players who’d thrown away a CL place the season before, the same players Robson publicly protected by saying they were booing him. At the start of the 2004 season we drew to a last minute Hasselbaink back post punched goal, threw away a 2 goal lead to newly promoted Norwich, murdered Spurs and lost 1-0 then benched Shearer and lost 4-2 at Villa after leading 2-1 at HT. It was marginal stuff and we were playing ok. Shepherd believed Robson had lost the dressing room and there’s no doubt in my mind that the players got Robson the boot and Shearer takes an awful lot of the blame for that. Shearer could have made his presence known in the dressing room in support of Robson, Robson believed Shearer stabbed him in the back. The fans had nowt to do with it but they became a convenient excuse. We got what we deserved following that decision, Robson was leaving at the end of the season and the club shat on him from a great height.

I’ve heard that £200m has been bid with free advertising worth £100m as the rest. I know that this has been reported in the press, I’ve heard it from someone who works for the club (not the usual source). Probably means nowt, he also reckoned Almiron was a done deal 2 or 3 weeks ago. Again old news and from past experience most within the club don’t really know what’s going on.
