Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle United [LCSF 2nd Leg] (04/02/26)
Scoreboard82 replied to Yorkie's topic in Football
So shit that Pep or Lego head Arteta will almost certainly win the league. -
See the bit I've highlighted in bold. It's not as simple as just helping someone out though. You can do that a couple of times a season. If you can't make it for example. Problem is it can be open to simply point building, I've done it myself. It may help a mate or whoever but it also helps the ticket holder stay in the top points bracket and therefore keep priority on tickets. If you've genuinely done 150 aways then of course that should be recognised but there will be some on 150 pts who may have only attended 50 of those. There ARE "people who want to support Newcastle United" who will never get on the points ladder while the same few thousand have a stranglehold on away tickets, and I'm not talking about people just wanting to go because we're half decent nowadays but there are the younger lads/lasses for example. It's a loyalty point system. Reward loyalty and the people who have actually used their tickets.

There are lads I work with who are generally canny lads but can be hard to spend time with when things aren't going well at the club. Last night for example was an 8 hour long inquest and assessment of last night's game and the current situation. Over and over again. "Everyone is shit. Howe out. This player's shit, and him". Everyone just written off. No talk of player X not having lived up to expectations yet but may come good, just get them out. I get the frustration but I sometimes get the feeling that one or two revel in NUFC failure and would probably be gutted if we turned both Liverpool and Man City over 5-0. Having said that, the league season has been disappointing and we can only hope lessons will be learned going forward.

I'm not sure he would be the man to fill Eddie's crocodile shoes ☺
-
Think I've seen him on a few ad's on the tele. He's maybe got a show on some small local channel, North Norfolk Digital style.

It was as if a switch was flicked once we scored. Started so well then just turned into a mess.

Result and generally poor performance aside it was ok in there. Got in a little over an hour before KO and was a small queue of about 8 people in front of me. Plenty of bars, waiting time no worse than most pubs IMO. Prices no worse than I expected either. Coors was £5.90 a pint then went on to Madri which may have been coppers more. Hard plastic glasses. Easily accessible food outlets. I had a small ham and mushroom pizza for £7.90 which was about the size of a plate but on a really thin base. The DJ helps create a good pre match atmosphere with the sort of tunes that they play in the ground and a few additions. Hey Jude, Home Newcastle etc. There was a brief appearance from band the "Belta Reivers" too who played Blaydon Races and the likes. It's a predominantly young crowd in there much younger than old codgers in their late 50s like myself. You'd probably need to go earlier to get a seat in good view if the game but we were happy to stand and had a clear view of a huge screen. Not for me but people were openly vaping. Would go again. Enjoy if you go.

What a day. Simply could not believe such a superstar was playing for MY club right in front of me. That's enough about Peter Haddock. Keegan was good to see too ☺. Seriously though, KK was the stuff of dreams. I was one if those hanging on those hoardings, hence my user name.

Seems like only yesterday. A real bombshell at the time. The king stayed true to his word by bringing in Sir Les. Nice of Jimmy Hill to give an opinion, about 7 mins in ☺

I made my debut at home v West Ham about a month after that so that gave me some idea of the 1st toon line up I would have ever seen. I believe goalkeeper Roger Jones was signed shortly after that Derby game so definitely a change there.
-
Intending to make my Stack debut this coming Saturday for the Liverpool game. Will report back.

Unbelievably worse than us when we went down there. Hoping for more 2nd half and that Reinildo the dildo to get sent off.
-
I'm sure I can remember white shorts being unlucky for us years ago. Or were any shorts just unlucky because we were generally shite?

Arbroath man. Went there when St Mirren started their (winning) league cup campaign in July. We went with T shirts on as the UK baked in hot sunshine. Everywhere except Arbroath that is, where the mist from the north sea enveloped the ground. Freezing, in July. Love Scottish football though.

Only get one a day unfortunately as I'm finding it quite addictive. Answer was 8 letters long on Saturday and was doing my head in. Answer was Kilcline. Took me til my last guess and the clue of his birthplace of Nottingham. https://toondle.com/ That link may reveal todays answer but there's a new one in the morning. Just thought I'd put the link up here to make it easier to access.

Anyone tried this? toondle.com Got to guess the surname of a toon player past/present. At the guess stage you can enter a 1st name and if any of the letters in your guess are correct it will fill in the squares but tell you if those letters are in the right/ wrong places. It's canny.

But it's going in hard (ooer)! that whips up that world famous Roker roar. That's why Bally is still a hero to this day. Wish they'd piss off to the northern league where it's more suited.

Only caught the stoppage time and the goal of course. One the the scruffiest goals I've ever seen which made it all the more dramatic. Enjoyed it. Well done.

Aye, to be fair to them they even mock the Etihad atmosphere themselves by singing "Is this the Etihad?" during lulls in the atmosphere. As for the take up of their allocation, when you've won it 8 times and are regularly in semi finals I suppose the novelty is bound to wear off.

Awful news. My all time hero and the greatest man to have been associated with this club IMO. Was lucky to meet him once. When my daughter was younger, we were in Glasgow and i took her to his "Soccer Circus". Paid to go in and a lady who I had no idea who at the time came across and made conversation as she had seen me wearing a retro 80s style toon top. Turns out it was Jean/mrs Keegan and she then went to find the king who unbelievably came and talked to me for what seemed like ages. Signed my shirt then we went round the Soccer Circus activities. There I was trying to boot the ball against some figures of players when a voice from nowhere said "Go on Geordie" and as I turned round KK was stood behind me. He was telling me where to hit the ball etc. I couldn't believe it. Surreal, and I wasn't great to start with but lost all composure. Despite his coaching, balls were straying everywhere except where they were meant to. What a man! Not religious but he's worth praying for.

Newcastle United 4-3 Leeds United (07/02/26) | post-match from pg. 75

Think I can only remember listening to the 2001 Leeds game on the radio but we're we 3-1 down? Fantastic that. I'm gonna go for the Norwich game though. Again, 3-1 down and I'm sure we got our 3rd and 4th within the space of a few mins. Absolute bedlam. The 5-4 v Leicester circa 1990 was great too. 4-2 down and looking dead and buried. -
Not sure this is in the right thread but watching last night's MOTD no-one appeared to be sitting down at the Leeds v Man Utd game. Unless it was my ageing eyesight.

I watched St Mirren lose 2-0 to Motherwell at Fir Park. Motherwell weren't great but St Mirren are toon..esque in that they seem more up for it in certain games than others. 08.31 train up. Went to a bar we'd previously visited near the ground but they've now made it home fans only. Found ourselves in the "Davie Cooper Suite" at Fir Park which was a mix of both sets of fans. Quite unusual in this day and age. Not as strange as the Dundee/Dundee Utd fans on derby day which Wallsend Mag mentioned mind. That did surprise me, as did the lack of atmosphere. I briefly met a couple of Motherwell supporting toon fans on the train home. Father and son I think.

Watched a "Big Match Revisited" recently and they had a couple of goals featured in goal of the season. One for and one against Chelsea in their only top flight season. Mad to think they were in the old 1st division once upon a time. 74/75 I think. I believe they topped it briefly.
