  3. It does depend on what other teams do in the summer too, but I think we can compete against, and half of the team beat; Wigan, Wolves, Bolton, West Brom, West Ham and obviously the play-off team. It looks like it will be a scap between a lot of teams in the bottom half of the table again, like it has been the last 2 years.
  4. I would be fairly comfortable with that if those 2, 3 players were players who would make a notible difference to us. Mendy, Reo-Coker/Taraabt & Dindane for example (not all my personal choice) would cost around 15m roughly, and would add vital ingriedents missing in the current squad. Pacey experienced right-back, energetic midfielder, creative talent, and a goal-scorer. Actually someone like Taarabt would not be needed possibly if Vuckic gets his chances, which would be fair enough. But by the looks of that statement, 2 or 3 signings like that are not possible, which is shame as it would help out the lads who are there now a lot.
  5. I think the most depressing thing about it is the 5 year plan. Its not even 'lets take one step at a time and see where we are going', let alone to be challenging for europe after 5 years, but simply to break even. Cant wait for that party in 5 years time. And that's not dis-regarding the dangers of over-spending and financial mess - just that 5yr plan shows simply zero ambition on any sensible scale.
  6. The statement has manipluation written all over it more than anything else. Mention the name Portsmouth, and at a glance, his 'plan' suddenly looks better to some people - disregarding any kind of thought about actual situations & details of course. The Geordie Nation - "well the Geordies love one of their own, now they're whinging the owner wants more acedemy players getting a chance!"... again, disregarding most of the young'uns do not consist of 'The Geordie Nation', nor is the academy brimming full of talent on the scale that they seem to imply (it is not suddenly way ahead of every other club's academy at this moment). Divide & conquer - I'll quote another fan, problem child off toontastic, who said this: The biggest threat to Ashley’s plans to get his money back is the supporters. If we ever say ‘fuck you’ en masse and stop handing over our money he’s up shit creek. The disinformation creates enough division within the ranks to stop us ever calling his bluff.
  7. Think I would rather go for O'Hara or Boateng for next season, don't think we can take gambles on players like Taarabt unless it was a loan or something, or we had a s*** load to spend (doubtful). The reason I'd go for Taarabt is because he's more offensive, more direct (running at players) and can play in a lot of positions, just behind the striker for example, giving us more options upfront. He's more skillful, and we'll need someone different. I like O'Hara, but if Barton can get back to somewhere near his best then he could do the same role, and Reo-Coker would possibily compliment Barton better.
  8. Reo-Coker, Taarabt & Keane would cost around 12-15m, then add a few players who'd be cheaper like Mendy from Hull and a window like that shouldnt be out of our reach.

    Nicky Butt

My view is pretty much this from True Faith: It is being widely reported Saturday was Nicky Butt’s St James’ Park swansong at Newcastle United. Nicky has had his trials and tribulations at the club but for me he has always been a fully committed professional, a decent lad, a winner and a credit to himself and Newcastle United. When football nowadays is full of the diamond ear stud, hummer driving tossers, Nicky Butt has been a throwback to a time when players were just like fans. Having met Nicky a couple of times for interviews (when fanzines had access to United players) I can confirm he is the decent lad he is cracked up to be. When he arrived at the club I was delighted we’d signed him and contacts in Manchester sung his praises as a top class pro and decent human being. Nicky’s first season was not a good one. He played with an injury, his form dipped, he refused to hide, he was slaughtered by fans and he was lied about in the press. He was grotesquely mismanaged by Souness (what’s the odds eh?) but to Glenn Roeder’s credit he was rehabilitated and in my opinion he served the club very well. There have been games when Nicky’s age seemed to be catching up with him but for those who were watching closely they saw a lad doing the dirty jobs on a football pitch for his team - tracking runners, screening the back-line, putting his body on the line, making himself available for the pass in a difficult situation etc. In short being a proper footballer. If there was one lad at the club who could have played the Billy Big Balls it was Nicky Butt because after all he’s the only one there who has a box full of medals, international caps and the memories of playing in a World Cup and countless other top matches and tournaments. Being a lad from Manchester who grew up under Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford it is obvious a big, big part of him will be a Red forever. Who would expect any different? However, from both his words and deeds we know Nicky Butt is a Mag and if he does hang up his boots and moves into coaching I’d love him to have a role at our club because there is much a young player could learn from the way he trains and lives his life. Thanks, Nicky! The abuse he gets on here is totally over the top imo, maybe a smug enjoyment out of taking the piss?? He was a good player for us for a few years, made a scapgoat, and never hid during games. If we had someone with more legs next to him it would have also made a big difference.
  10. I'd try and get the best out of Barton next season with him as our main man the middle, and alongside Reo-coker I think it could be a decent partnership. They can switch roles going forward and protecting the back four, but with Reo-coker especially decent at breaking things up and tracking runs, allowing Barton to get foward, get his passing back to his best, and getting into the box.
  11. Adel Taarabt, Bernard Mendy as someone said, Reo-Coker could possibily be canny, or O'Hara if possible, Paul Scharner is on a free in the summer I think.
  12. I'd give him his chance but not hesitate in putting Krul games if Harper is looking suspect.
  13. Anyone have 2 spare tickets for the leazes corner??
  14. I'd rather them than the false creep show that is Skysports.
  15. The system is can obviously work, the problem people, and Keegan, obviously have is the way the system was carried out.
  16. What a fantastic comparison Hiddink Because its not about managerial ability, its about standards and being lied to, so any man worth his salt wouldnt have been impressed with what was going on, obvious really, but I assume you already know that too? PSV Eredivisie Winner : 1986–87, 1987–88, 1988–89, 2002–03, 2004–05, 2005–06 KNVB Cup Winner : 1988, 1989, 1990, 2005 European Cup Winner : 1988 Real Madrid Intercontinental Cup Winner : 1998 Chelsea FA Cup Winner (1): 2009 Netherlands UEFA Euro 1996 Quarter Finals 1998 FIFA World Cup Fourth Place South Korea 2002 FIFA World Cup Fourth Place Australia 2006 FIFA World Cup Second Round Russia UEFA Euro 2008 Semi Final Keegan Newcastle United Football League Division One: Champion 1992–93 Fulham Football League Second Division: Champion 1998–99 Manchester City Football League Division One: Champion 2001–02 England Euro 2000 : Group Stages I think the fact you are pretending I'm comparing Keegan & Hiddink as manager's in terms of achievements says it all, your not reslly interested in having a sensible conversation are you? More interested in your ' eeee god look how far out he is '. I was comparing how ANY manager would have felt when Dennis Wise told them the Gonzalez story. I'm sure someone like Hiddink would not accepted stuff like that, like most managers. I think you already knew that, but were still sad enough to dig up every detail of the cv's of both managers. Why did you compare his reaction to what you suppose Hiddink's would be then? Because its not about managerial ability, its about standards and being lied to, so any man worth his salt wouldnt have been impressed with what was going on, obvious really, but I assume you already know that too? There's potentially nothing wrong with the system they wanted to implement. The problem was that they didn't make it clear who had what roles, and that they ultimately appointed the wrong people/personalities into every role in their system. If they wanted a manager who would work under a director of football, Keegan should have been a million miles away from the top of their shortlist. I agree in general, I'd say the way the they went about the system was terrible (like you say, possiblity because of the wrong people appointed, like Wise) and the lack of respect shown to someone like Keegan was disgraceful. I think the reason Ashley got him was to sell 3 year season tickets and rake in as much merchandise sales as possible, effectively just using his name. I disagree with that last bit, I think he got him in to be the manager, working under the director of football he appointed, he just didn't do a very good job of it. Aye fair do's, only he knows for sure.

  18. "Finally, the Club’s own witnesses themselves seemed to be unclear as to what was the position as to who would have the final say and we had, and continue to have, real difficulty in understanding the Club’s position on this point." Thats a shambles really, isnt it. "Although we heard a considerable amount of evidence as to events which took place in the months which followed Mr Keegan’s appointment, in view of our conclusions, we can proceed at once to the events which culminated in Mr Keegan’s resignation on 4 September 2008." It would be interesting to know which events they were. " In any event, it is clear that the “final final straw” occurred on 4 September when the Club handed to him the letter to which we have referred above in which it made it clear that were he to remain at the Club he would still not have the final say." For Keegan to stay at the club at the point, he would've had to be happy to be Dennis Wise's & Ashley's puppet, and lie to the fans week in week out, hense his position untenable, imo "This was repeated by some of the Club’s witnesses (i.e. that the position was that Mr Keegan had the final say save for financial or commercial deals) but some of those same witnesses then asserted later in their evidence that Mr Keegan never had the final say and Mr Wise was not prepared to accept that Mr Keegan ever had the final say, even apart from financial and commercials deals. This lack of clarity, indeed confusion, in the understanding of the Club’s own representatives as to this critical issue makes it, in our view, even less likely that it would and should have been clear to Mr Keegan from what he was told at the meeting on 16 January 2008 that he would not have the final say. " With Gutierez, Collocini, and Xisco, perhaps Dennis Wise simply classed them as his signings (and him being in control) with Keegan giving the ok on the terms of being relativley impressed enough with what he had saw and on the basis that other players he himself had mind himself would also be brought to the club before the deadline shut.

IIm sure its not, but this was when the squad was desperately short in certain area's, only a day before the transfer window shut, and when any trust you would have with your DOF would be broken ("Ive got a great player for you"). And Im sure that that any other favour's to other ganets in football at least get returned (where were the south american wonder kids in January?). Its not exactly impressive stuff (to say the least) for any manager who is serious about taking the club forward.

  22. Can I ask these people who dont trust Keegan, how we're you feeling when he went? When everything kicked off, at the Hull game etc? Do you know the opinion around that time he'd been treated like crap has been proved correct? Have you read the tribunal report? Do you think Hiddink would have been happy when Dennis Wise tells him to look at a great player on Youtube, the clips are rubbish, then Mr Wise tells him the quality of the player is actually irrelevant, that he just wants to do a favour for an agent? On the second last day of the transfer window, thats what your DOF is busy doing?

    Jonas Gutierrez

    Love his effort, class performance.
  24. I'm sure the Portsmouth fans thought that every owner they've had this season would automatically pay the bills but they haven't. I'm grateful that our owner has paid our bills and that we'll hopefully be in the top league next season because without him this season we would be unlikely to be in the position that we are. That doesn't change what he's done wrong in the past and it doesn't make any mistake any easier, it just makes our future look a little bit brighter. You could rightly point out that he's part of the reason why we are in this division, that doesn't change where we are now and where we look to be heading. Like I've already said we can only hope to change the future, not the past. Yes, and thats what Im saying, I'm grateful we're not Portsmouth, but again that comes back to Mike Ashley not being even more of a twat and refusing to pay them after his mistakes - he dosent deserve thanks for that. The comments from Llambias are implying that he shouldnt really be paying the bills and ignoring the main reasons those bills are there to be paid - that deserve a response imo, a response that says 'we're not going to fall for patronising crap like that'.
