With all the uncertainity - why not grab Helguera? Wouldn't be against Edmilson tbh - top top player in my opinion. Always been imprressed with him - classy. Rate him more than Motta - tho I guess Motta has more longevity.

At the moment - with the 4 strikers we currently have - have got one of each type of striker needed to be successful - Owen - prolific poacher / Viduka - Big target man, hold ball up / Martins - Quick Powerful Pacy forward, full of running / Ameobi - Unpredictability, good backup - this means in theory we could play any tactics and have the players for it. Gudjohnsen for Owen wouldn't be good - because who would put the ball away into the net? Martins - I really rate him as a player, but his finishing needs work. WOuld like to see Gudjohnsen here, don't get me wrong - but not at the expense of anyone else - an addition to midfield / striker. Behind the front two if possible. That said - we do have Luque - he's certainly skilful enough for this position - his vision could be exploited in such a role. Tbh - get two full backs in at least - 1 RB, Solano/Dyer as back up - 2 LB's if possible - another CB, a defensive midfielder (Lassana Diarra - Chelsea anyone?) THEN we can look at the strike options. Milner / Dyer Duff /N'Zogbia / Luque Emre/Barton are very attack minded players - really good quality already there imo.

What has Jenas vs Barton got to do with Liverpool being skint? Jenas is shite btw - I should know - I'm from Nottingham and played against him numerous times as a youth. He's overrated is all I'm saying. Not saying Barton is amazingly better either.

Where would Diouf play? I am already happy with both wings - Milner and Dyer/Solano, and Duff and N'Zogbia/Luque. Up front - Ameobi's better. Lets not sign players for the sake of signing someone eh? Newcastle's best player is Martins - in terms of sheer raw potential - plus the player we could command the highest fee for. That said - the thread was best player for each club, not player who has potential who could flog for a good amount... For the record, Chelsea's best player is Ballack. Portsmouth - Sol Campbell. Everton - Yobo / Arteta - Arteta shades it for me.

Yes what a step up we'd be for one of the most talented youngsters in world football. Someone's just reminded me of Antonio Cassano who seems to have totally dissapeared, seems like a typical Big Sam signing and there's no way he'll stay at Madrid. His talent is unquestionable but maybe one Joey Barton is enough in terms of attitude. Newcastle are similar to Atletico in that they are a big club who have underachieved - he has got legendary status there - he may want the same challenge - if he does well, he certainly would be idolised by the Toon faithful. Is it just me or has Big Sam's halo tilted ever so slightly today? I mean, before today he could do no wrong, he was making the right move in everything he did, saying the right stuff etc - to be crude, the sun casically shined out of his crack. Today - he's said we are NOT in for Guily, Tuncay and Baines (so, the only three players I had actually heard of that we've been linked with, and the three I was genuinely excited about!) and also look to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory so to speak with regards Tal Ben Haim and Rozenhal - both were thought to be in the bag, but seem to be slipping away... Emre is world class on his day. If anyone, he should be a definite starter, and the team built around him tbh. An Appiah type midfielder alongside him, to the dirty work, a Tuncay in front of him, with Owen / Martins / Viduka to choose from up front. Milner / Duff on the wings. Quality.

WHAT?! Speed is the most ridiculously over-rated Newcastle player of the Premiership era. He was decent, no more, no less. People take the mick out of Parker and his pirouettes, Speed was similar in that respect. He'd also give the ball a fair bit, wasn't a great tackler, and how often would the wingers (in particular Robert), have to stop a forward run because rather than play the ball in front of them, Speed would play it to feet or even behind? The only thing that made him stand out was that he wasn't as attacking as the other three midfielders and didn't bomb forward all of the time. Want my true view, Acuna was much the better player. Hmmm. Not sure I agree with that - Speed was a slow starter, but pure class. He was what Parker should have been. Speed was a box to box attacking midfielder throughout his career, except at Newcastle where SBR turned him into a quality DM. Nothing spectacular - but consistent as they come mate. I think he made Jenas look good tbh. If Parker could have adapted his game like Speed did, he could've been a legend too. Not only that - scored his fair share of goals too. Acuna was underrated btw - I thought he was pretty good, did the job as a squad player. We need more depth and players of that quality as backup, as opposed to the likes of Amady Faye!
