Decent first half, slightly disappointing second. Still, we were playing Chelsea, you know, the team that's in the CL final and still have a chance of winning the league? It was a decent enough performance at times, they were just far too good for us. Smith gets a lot of unfair criticism just because he's Smith. I'm not saying he was good, but the carry on over his performance (which wasn't bad either btw) is unfair, and happens everytime he plays. You do realise Keegan told him to move back into the midfield when we were under the cosh don't you? He didn't do it just because he wanted to. Anyway, hopefully we can finish off the season well at Badison Park next Sunday, and regardless, we'll still finish 1 place higher than last season (assuming Wigan don't beat Utd) after going through a third of the year without winning a game.

To be honest, he's still under contract, and if we only got offered that I'd keep him. It might piss him off, but bully for him, he's only getting about 25k a week for it. Hell, I'll swap with him if he wants. I'd be hoping for at least 8.

Do we realistically think that Keegan is going to start Faye and Dunne? Personally if we sign Dunne I belive it will be Taylor and Dunne as our central defensive partnership, with Faye as back-up. Be a cracking signing but.

I can't see it happening. IMO, the problem isn't to do with the first teams (although I do think Arsenal only having one English player in their first team a little disgraceful), more to do with the youth/reserve teams coming up. Look at Liverpool for example, full of foreigners that they nab when they're 15/16. We've started to do it as well. Also, English players are far too highly valued as is, why pay 10m for an English player when you can get a same level player for 3m from Ukraine or Russia?

I noticed we've been linked to Darren Bent again, for 10m. Now, he's been a flop at Spurs, but what are peoples opinions on him for that price?

To be fair, I've been one criticising Steven Taylor a bit in the past, but in the last 6 games he's been very solid, perhaps even more so than Faye, who I am a big fan of. He deserves a new contract, and hopefully he builds on an extremely bright finish to this season.

They're not in very good form, but we can't afford to underestimate them. Amazing to think that if we beat them, we'll only be two points behind them though. 2-1, Owen and Barton to score.

Even if they lose all 3 of their remaining games, I'd be extremely surprised if they went down. What are they? 5 points clear of Birmingham? That means Birmingham will have to win 2 out of their last 3. Not to mention Reading and Bolton as well.

I think it was a penalty, for the sole reason that if it didn't hit his hand, Owen would've latched onto his clever chip over the top. That's what swayed it for me, and probably what swayed it for the referee too.

I don't think we've been as good as we've been in recent weeks, but Sunderland have been disgraceful. Our passing/retaining possession has been woeful at times, but theirs has been worse and we lead 2-0 so it's all good. Michael Owens penalty - God he knows how to make us all have heart attacks doesn't he? Having said that, he's been absolutely sensational in the first half, and I hope to god he gets a well deserved hat-trick. 6 in the last 6 for him, eventually showing us what he can do, and surprise surprise, it's when he gets the service. Geremi is one of the most frustrating players ever. He does some canny good things, but cancels it out by doing some shocking ones. Joey Barton and Nicky Butt have patrolled the midfield extremely well, and Abdoulaye Faye has kept Jones in his pocket to date. Another goal early in the second half would be rather nice.

Fucking pumped for this. I know it sounds negative, and I'd love it, love it if we beat them, but I'd settle for us not losing. I can't think of anything worse than losing to them, oh, and the fact that if we do, they'll go above us in the league.
