The beauty of players coming from "lesser" leagues is that they generally don't cost very much. If he's cheap, then I say he's worth a punt if he'll actually get some first-team minutes. If not, then fuck it and don't even bother. Btw, we do have Xisco who had in the top 3 (although there's some debate?) best goals/minute ratios in his league which was far superior to the Austrian league and he doesn't even get minutes on the pitch. Can't deny that they are scoring goals. I think Martins does a fair bit to pull defenders away from Owen so that Owen can find space to prod home. That being said, I'd still like to see Viduka in there to add some creativity/hold up play - not at the expense of Owen or Martins though, at the expense of Butt/Guthrie/Barton.

Atmosphere was brilliant. Loved it, was my first game too. Ive never been to a game like it, f***ing brilliant, was close to tears at one point after the game when that bird was singing. Brilliant night becasue it was so unexpected. We were s*** at the time, a terrible season, and I think the general feeling people had was that they were only going along becasue they felt they 'had' to. I was blown away by the night and can still remember how I felt on top of the world the next day at work, I was f***ing buzzing for days afterwards. It wasnt even a proper game and it had a pantomime ending but the night just reaffirmed why the bloody hell I love this club. Delap's throw ins are very easy to defend if your keeper commands the box and will come out to punch them away. The key is to have the person (or people) on the goal line come out and attack the ball rather than letting it get into the box un-attacked. The throw generally goes to the same spot every time so it's not hard to guess where it's going and prepare beforehand.

Two things: 1) If you only saw the second half then you probably shouldn't rate players, because... 2) You'll probably do something dumb like give Guthrie a 5. He really did a great job for a young player today, did a lot of breaking up and while it's not fancy, it's effective. Overall, the match wasn't pretty but I'll take it.
