  1. I think on a technical level he'd be better than any of our current first teamers.
  2. Bull shit. The opening day should be like the last day, simultaneous kick-offs, preferably Saturday at 15:00.
  3. I can't help but feel completely underwhelmed by the fact he's signed for Boro. Rangers, who challenge for the title every season and are in the Champions League offered him a new contract and, if the move was money motivated, he could have earned £50,000 a week in Turkey but he's chosen to join an average Championship club. Can only assume he wanted to stay on these shores and no Premiership club was willing to take a punt on him.
  4. The more I think about it, I actually reckon I'd sooner Newcastle won the league cup than England won the World Cup to be honest.
  5. This is baffling to be honest. If some British fella wins a bike race you'd be happier than if Newcastle won a cup? Crazy. I'm with madras. Would honestly rather Andy Carroll gets called offside 34 times instead of 35 times this season than Andy Murray wins Wimbledon.
  6. Aye, I reckon I'd be a bit of a flash cunt but I just can't imagine, even if I had millions in the bank, that I'd ever be of the mindset where I thought along the lines of "£20,000 for something that will tell me the time, aye why not, I'll take it". Couldn't bare to part with more than twenty quid for one now so £20,000 if I was rolling in it would be a bloody struggle too. I see taking my phone out of my pocket as a cheaper solution to checking the time.
  7. Now Onuoha-Sunderland link has gone quiet you should really go for him, such a good player. I really rate him. Was on about cash tbf. Give it a year or two and they'll give us £30m for Vuckic...

    Players in public

He used to live (or maybe still does) next door to my Auntie and Uncle in Leeds. My old man has a B&B in Pickering, says he sees David Batty there a fair bit.
  9. Agreed. I mean, what the f*** is he going to do with £221,000 per week? What would anyone do with it? Well, Oba would spend it somehow I suppose. Presumably he'll support himself and his family, buy himself some nice things, and invest the rest in interest bearing accounts or his own personal business ventures. Like everyone with a sense of money management would. It really is not that much money. There are many people who have a much larger stream of income for a mcuh longer period of time than footballers. I don't begrudge him for following the money. Not saying I 'begrudge' him following the money at all, I just merely wonder how, even with the money Man City have, they can bring themselves to offer Yaya Toure that kind of wage, he's a canny player but he's not an £11m per year player. Certainly don't begrudge him following the money, I'm often defending footballers wages based on the fact it's a short career in which money is rife to my football-hating father-in-law. Feel quite dirty doing so mind but I just can't understand why he doesn't like football so I think I only do it to wind him up even more.

    James Perch

Not meant as a racist comment at all but Houghton seems to prefer players that have the same skin tone as him, Routledge, Simpson, Best and now Perch. Surely this can only mean one thing? http://i.thisislondon.co.uk/i/pix/galleries/news/robsonmemorial/Chris-Hughton-arr.jpg http://i.thisislondon.co.uk/i/pix/2010/01/routledge415.jpg http://images.football.co.uk/Dynamic/Group/Source/840fe49d76645b34d93986fb55a12e91.jpg http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Derby+County+v+Newcastle+United+l2raSTCJSugl.jpg http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/incoming/article101421.ece/ALTERNATES/gallery-large/James+Perch.jpg ... http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01069/fabiano_1069137a.jpg

    James Perch

I think Perch will prove to be a decent enough signing, he was obviously rated by Forest somewhere down the line to have been handed the captaincy and 200 appearances at just 24 makes for ok reading, injury wise. The lad might not have had a great time towards the back end of last season but who did at Forest? They were gash. Perhaps it was a confidence issue with the player? If so I'd certainly put a bit of faith in Hughton instilling some level of confidence and getting at least 12-15 decent Premiership games out of Perch next season, he certainly transformed the no-hopers we were relegated with the season before last to a seemingly 'together' bunch of lads who played with a bit of confidence at times.
  13. Aye, but as was mentioned in previous posts perhaps Boyd didn't get the service a poacher needs in those games to have a better tally than 3 goals. He's still a proven goalscorer. Besides which, to say that SPL teams with the exception of Celtic are Championship standard or LESS is an unfair argument, there's no way of knowing that.
  14. No that was Ousmane Dabo. Would love to see Nedum up here, will be surprised if we pull it off but I can't see him getting much playing time at Citeh.
  15. Sweet jesus. I hate to break it to you guys but we're not in Europe. This would be a completely low risk signing. A proven goalscorer is still a proven goalscorer, regardless of what level he's playing at. Steven Fletcher was at one of the worst clubs in the PL last season and, considering the shite he was surrounded with on the pitch, managed to finish the season with a decent goal tally. Boyd would absolutely be worth a punt on a free, give him the ball in and around the penalty area (which Jonas and Routledge should be capable off) and he knows where the goal is. I could perhaps understand the argument if he'd been at Rangers 4 years and scored 9-10 goals a season but he's been prolific. Granted, his workrate may be a weakpoint but if he can score 10-12 goals a season I'd be more than happy for him to be a lazy bastard for 89 minutes if he comes up with the goods in front of goal and that could be the difference between us staying up and going down. It really seems like the media stereotype of over-expectant and demanding Newcastle United fans is being proven here judging by some reaction to this rumour.
  16. Fantastic news. So long as we take note and sort his deal out this summer.
  17. Really enjoyed it yes, I did have my reservations pre-season about us bouncing straight back (especially after that disastrous Leyton Orient friendly) but I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I think in a strange way it was exactly what we needed, we moved on some of the under-performing huge earners and breathed a new life into the set up, bought pretty well during January too. Credit where it's due though to Chris Hughton, the staff and the players. It's been a fantastic season.
  18. At least he didn't ask Joe Kinnear to do it for him. "My name? Yeah, it's Charles N'Sobia, errrr, Insomnia, errr Charlie"

    Nile Ranger

I'd love to see Nile get at least another one, if not more runout/s before the end of the season. Based on these cameo sub apprearances he's certainly offered a hell of a lot more than Best. If he HAS done something that gives Hughton a reason to leave him out than fair play to Hughton, but if not I'd love to see Ranger get more playing time before the end of the season.
  20. Just heard this on radio 1. Utterly bizarre.
  21. That's because they're Man United.
