It's very easy to make empty platitudes though even if you have the skill to back it up. Pardew makes all the right noises about living being here and understanding us and ultimately it means nothing.

I'd sooner base candidates on acumen and achievement than unquantifiable notions of passion and understanding. They're not mutually exclusive like, but the former is vastly more important than the latter.
