Relative to where we've come from, maybe. But considering what we were able to achieve in the second half of last season, 7th and up is the obvious benchmark to be trying to hit. And it's clear to me, most importantly of all, from the top down, we're fostering a mindset of legitimately trying to compete with the top six to the greatest possible extent. In light of all of that, I don't know why anyone would want to lower the bar and start talking about the positives of a top 10 finish.

  6. I'm in that camp too. He'd command an elite level fee and I'm not convinced he's going to be an elite level DM.
  7. #WBA Steve Bruce: “It’s not in my nature to surrender and go meekly. I know I’m not everybody’s cup of tea, especially the supporters, but given time I still think I can take this club where it wants to be”.
  8. Beautiful goal, and all came from his attacking movement and chemistry with Bruno. His instincts in that respect, where he's picking up spaces in and around the right hand side of the box, are really strong. Can see why Howe has given him an extended run at RW even though it's not his natural position.

  10. Think it's a mistake to think of Plan A, Plan B etc purely in terms of personnel. We're going to need to transition into being a team that can effectively break through a low block/deep defence much more effectively than we showed on Saturday. It's going to involve player upgrades but will also need tactical flexibility and evolution.
  11. If he'd held his starting position the goal would not have stood. It was also only a few seconds after the entire defensive line had stepped up. It wasn't exactly a masterclass in defensive organisation at any point in the build-up, it should be said, Targett is almost guilty of similar (think there's a fraction in his favour), but that choice looks like the decisive one.
  12. Think it's been largely overlooked that Burn played Billing onside for Bournemouth's goal (iirc)
  13. Those hit and hope crosses and speculative punts forward from midfield were definitely the most frustrating aspects of our play today.
  14. You don't have to have personally witnessed the team preparing through the week to pass comment on the way they have set up and are playing once the game itself has commenced. That would be ridiculous. it's perfectly valid to be thinking about what is happening tactically in the wake of a performance like that one.
  15. The lack of creativity has been a theme so far this season. In terms of patterns of play and intelligent build-up in the final third, we have been found lacking. Too many balls put into the box in a 'playing the percentages' kind of way as opposed to genuine movement and fluidity up top. This is most apparent when we are facing compact teams defending deep, as we were today. That's partly a question of personnel, of course, but it's still noteworthy. Too early to be making any assessments beyond that, though.
  16. The LGBT displays have been about demonstrating our inclusivity as a fanbase, I'd define that as being NUFC related far more than any display this weekend could be.
  17. The salient point is that there's simply no need for a display related to the Queen at all, it's not relevant to WF or the club. Don't understand the mentality of those who want something so beautifully NUFC specific to suddenly become a more generic vehicle for other kinds of messaging.
  18. Villa 1-2 Southampton Forest 1-2 Fulham Wolves 0-3 Man City Newcastle 2-0 Bournemouth Spurs 3-0 Leicester Brentford 1-2 Arsenal Everton 1-1 West Ham
  19. It's not even about being pro or anti monarchy, it's simply about what's relevant to Wor Flags, NUFC and football in general.
  20. Aye, should be kept to those directly affiliated to the club in some meaningful way. That's why, again imo, the Sam Fender one the other week was kind of cringe and out of place.
  21. More postponements = more midweek games = greater advantage for teams with the most depth Also the greatest disadvantage for teams with a higher intensity pressing game who are lacking in depth.
  22. Wonder if they could move for Cooper Would love to see it.
  23. Will be interesting to see who Brighton go for it Potter does go
