  1. Or stupidity. Or misplaced confidence that no one would ever find out.
  2. No doubt the Italian FA and Italian football in general are pretty corrupt, but I think it's a routine matter that a national ban for betting on games is applied worldwide. Ivan Toney was the same.
  3. Even if you knew that the prospective new employer was paying a non-refundable £50 million to your old employer for your services? And you knew that you had created circumstances that might very soon render you unable to provide those services? And are you saying you "would" have kept it to yourself (even though it was wrong) or that it was actually morally OK not to let on? If you or I change jobs and don't tell the new employer about, say, an addiction issue, then when it comes to light and the new employer finds out, the employer can just sack us and hire a replacement. He's not all that much worse off. But here you've got the issue of the £50 million, which changes the whole moral calculus.
  4. I agree that, in fairness, he shouldn't be on full pay. But I don't think that can be accomplished by imposing a "club discipline" fine as might be imposed on a player who turns up late for training.
  5. They can't fine him for a breach of club discipline for stuff he did before he joined the club. I suppose they could sue him for fraud or maybe breach of contract.
  6. Pretty sure clubs can't fine players for things they did before they joined the club.
  7. Maybe two false #10s instead. Well, y'know . . .
  8. Reckon someone might have placed a bet on the ball going out of play within 5 seconds of the kick-off. Worrying.
  9. Hard to imagine two more different personalities than Clough and Eddie.

What on earth was that throw-in?
  11. Just become a dad, per Eddie at the press conference.
  12. Fine art? He got us relegated twice.
  13. Almost perfect. Just need to work in "to be brutally honest," "since I walked in the door" and a few "well, y'know"s.
  14. Nice touch to include the cabbage accessory.
  15. If they knew about it and didn't disclose it to us, that's tantamount to fraud. This isn't like an injury, that the buying club has the opportunity to uncover by doing a diligent medical exam.
  16. He drinks Moretti. He eats spaghetti. He loves a bet. He hates fuckin' Sunderland.
  17. Spelling not one of Ashley's strengths, evidently.
  18. Yes, this is definitely worth a watch. And her disgusted "I'm going to fart" just before half-time is classic. Shame she didn't say "fart in your general direction."
  19. This 1970 Pop Robson goal against West Ham was featured in the opening sequence of Match of the Day for a season or two. Comical mishit by the Mighty Wyn immediately followed by the amazing left-foot volley by Robson. I was standing right behind the goal. Ball was coming directly at me. Might have hit me but for the net.
  20. Yes, it's time he decided to "do it my way" and "take the gloves off" and "get back to basics." Remember when we had to put up with shit like this every week: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55713413 "When Steve Bruce found his inner Frank Sinatra on Friday and declared that from now on he was going to do it "my way", he probably did not have a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in mind. The statement also raised the question of, if not his way, then whose method have Newcastle been following given Bruce has been in charge for 18 months. Perhaps Bruce's words were designed to provoke a response from his players, but Monday's loss extended a winless run to nine games and they have only scored once in their past seven. The 60-year-old said the "gloves would come off" before his team's trip to Emirates Stadium, but as his players trudged off at the end, they might seek their safety blankets again."
