  1. Does best when you don't notice he's on the pitch for most of match. Feel like has been gradually improving (from a low base) under Howe's coaching
  2. Played very well imo, we all know about his limitations but linked up nicely several times and was generally a big step back in the right direction compared to most of last year or two
  3. We have been awful, Spurs have been good, the end. Least don't have to read a few pages worth of posts blaming Krafth for a shit result for once, minor bonus.
  4. This is definitely true but not sure how much it holds when vast majority of squad now play in Europe, MLS or Mexico. Bolivia get the most benefit out of playing at altitude in SAM in my opinion and they would be bottom of the pile without that factor on their side. Colombia struggling to score goals definitely made qualification bit easier for Ecuador but they are a very solid team in their own right from what I have seen - have watched a bit of SAM qualies on account of casually following Peru
  5. Going to say that Gayle might struggle with 90 mins for 16 consecutive games, given he's only managed around 30 mins in the PL all season
  6. The recency bias with opinions on ASM on here is something else tbh. Not to say there aren't valid criticisms but we're a team full of plodders and he's the only one capable of anything electric, not hard to see why he got thrown on to get at them in last 20 minutes even if he's not really fit.
  7. Ineffective but thought he just wasn't at 100% fitness, similar against Chelsea. Whether he should get on the pitch at all in those circumstances is questionable but we don't exactly have a bench full of match winners.
  8. Don't think he got anything wrong really, another day we win that and everyone applauds him for winning ugly again, its just variance - some days you get it and some days you don't. I was certain we were on the right track before tonight and just as certain now
  9. Have generally thought he has been a bit harshly judged on here but was reminiscent of a League of Ireland centre forward tonight tbh, slow and cumbersome without any apparent ability to control the ball or anticipate anything
  10. Awfully disjointed and sloppy from us with the defensive solidity slowly unravelling as match went on. Fair play to Everton for making it a war of attrition and taking the chance when it came their way, can't stand Lampard and most of their fans are terrible but they did what they had to, still hope they get relegated obviously.
  11. Deserved nothing from this second half performance tbh
  12. Scrappy as fuck but we've been the better team, we look bit impotent but they really are total shit and think we will find a way eventually
  13. Total bullshit but trying to be philosophical. An outstanding effort with loads of players unavailable, just go and thump Everton and all will be fine
  14. Sure chopping off the heads of 81 people in public is barbaric but it also provides a boost to the local executioner and blood clean up industries, so both sides..
  15. Its funny because I would have generally always been a strong critic of Saudi Arabia, but when friends who support other teams bring up the same sort of criticism but include the Newcastle United element my first reaction is always to get someway defensive. This stuff is not going to go away and will just get worse if and when the team start achieving anything. If the roles were reversed I would definitely be giving stick to friends who were fans of a team owned by Saudis anyway.
  16. Southampton fans seem to be of opinion that they were shite and we are bang average, type of comments that have been a common theme from opposition fans lately. Certainly down to more than good variance though and it is very impressive how we have been grinding out these results in tight spots
  17. Brilliant manager and a brilliant human being, lucky to have him
  18. Playing miles better than all other relegation rivals and look a very good team now but still not mathematically safe so 7/10
  19. At the risk of sounding like a conspiratorial nutter, is there a chance that one day some cynical team/manager could plant someone in crowd to fake a medical emergency to get a potentially advantageous break in play in an important game
  20. https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/arid-40811415.html Few weeks old now and not exactly a galactico but worth a mention. I actually go to Galway Utd games regularly, good young player who has improved massively in short space of time and definitely got a bit of class but is very one footed, would be a gigantic step up for him obviously. Celtic have also had scouts at last couple of games I believe.
  21. He's our 3rd choice right back and I have no major issues with that for time being to be honest. Has his limitations but is performing to a higher standard than in the past, not quite the redemption arc of some other players and still needs improving on but I certainly don't hate him.
  22. Somewhere between 0 and 0.5, safe in everything but the mathematicals, we are a good team now and there's several bad teams below us in much worse predicaments
  23. Wood has scored 29 pens and missed 3 in his career FWIW, pretty sure he will be taking them for time being
  24. Totally despised him a few months ago and still don't trust him by any means but starting to look like this might not be a false dawn. He's been putting in the hard work fairly consistently, is making less glaring errors and just looks a lot sharper in general. Think it's a massive credit to Howe that he's been able to bring about such a transformation given Shelvey's obvious physical and mental shortcomings in the past.
