Taking a crap injured striker from a perenial relegation circular hardly screams ambition from a champions league team. And yes i recall the Ashley era in all its painfull misery...and signing rubbish players just cos they were free didnt exactly work well

Someone mentioned before, he'd be the most underwhelming signing since the summer of Lee Bowyer. Yes indeed. He has a pretty bad injury record, his scoring record isnt much better, and hes already 28. The only good thing is hes "free", and everyone knows free doesnt mean free anymore. Effectively we'd be swapping one permacrock for another...except the new one wouldnt score as much when fit. Does the fact that no-one else(apart from comically Man U) has been seriously linked not ring alarms? Or the fact that a bottom half team didnt even attempt to keep him? Arrogance or not we are currently better than Everton, and if he isnt good enough for them we shouldnt even be looking
