Newcastle United transfer rumours in the press
Ankles Bennett replied to Kaizero's topic in Football
It's fairly obvious we are saving our money for next summer in order to strengthen the side for life back in the EPL. Mccarthy and townsend are examples of players who have demonstrated they can cut it in the EPL so the club are happy to bring them in this January provided they are available for a reasonable fee. Judging by the round of Everton rejecting £16m it doesn't look like we will be able to agree a reasonable fee. If so Everton can keep him. He will prob run his contract down and go for free in a couple of years. It's sheer greed. £16m for a player who can't get in the first team. We may just have dodged a bullet if we miss out.p -

Absolutely no point in trying to progress in the FA Cup when the likes of Chelsea and Man city are still in the competition. -
Palace will cave in eventually, unless of course we sign Barrow, either way Palace don't get the cash they want in order to strengthen their side for the relegation battle, unless an EPL team comes in for him on the last day of the transfer window.

Agreed. The defender was two yards outside penalty area when he handled the ball. How on earth the ref gave a pen is beyond me.

His loss if he would rather join a no Mark club like Watford. Shows he has no ambition apart from retaining his status as a epl player...who can't get a game in the EPL. -

Send Ameobi to Derby in part ex for Ince -
In 09/10 season it was forest who clung on to our shirt-tails until we beat them 2 nil at sjp with Enrique scoring his first goal for us. I envisage Brighton doing the same. If they get any injuries they don't have the squad to maintain their position at the top. Of course they may do a Burnley but once Shelvey is back I reckon we will go back to the top and get promoted.

Newcastle United 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday - 26/12/16 - Match Thread
Ankles Bennett replied to a topic in Football
I personally thought Wednesday didn't allow us any time on the ball. When the ball was played to feet they were in with a hard tackle so that we invariably lost position or lost momentum by winning free kicks which allowed wednesday to regroup at the back and we couldn't pass the ball through them as play was constantly broken up. Our problem was we kept on with our game plan even though it was plain to see their game plan was nullify ing ours. I suppose the thought behind it was we only have to pass through them once to score a goal. Shame it didn't work. Still on the bright side that would have been 0-4 home loss if it wasn't for Darlow. Fletcher should have had a hat trick. -

Without Shelvey we have no penetration. Got to buy Delph next week or we have a good chance of squandering all our good work in the first half of the season. -

Wednesday have bossed this game. We have been second best. Lots of possession but no penetration at all. -

Could do worse than sign Snodgrass from Hull. He is out of contract in the summer. -
Wey give owwa man! Very mackemesque to bury your head and not accept the fact he made racist comments to someone, he's been found guilty. You don't brush that s*** under the rug because he's doing alright on the pitch, especially with team mates of the same origin. Like I say I'll wait to hear their findings, if its beyond excusable then I'd be happy to get rid, if it's blown out of context then I'd be willing to see him stay. You'd be happy to get rid!! Get a grip man. There will be a queue a mile long of EPL and Championship teams trying to sign him if we put him on the transfer list. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.....

Lansbury will be feeling erythromycin smug over gaining three points from conning the ref and linesman. I wonder whether he will feel quite so smug when refs refuse to give penalties in future games because they know he is a cheat. He may have won three points yesterday but he may have cost his side numerous future points because he is now known to be a cheat.

Leeds United vs Newcastle United - 20/11/16 @ 13:15 - SS1
Ankles Bennett replied to 54's topic in Football
Back then Leeds were a top top club with some of the best players around. Most teams in the then First division just couldnt cope with them. They had the likes of Peter Lorimer, Johnny Giles, Billy Bremner, Alan Clarke and Mick Jones, not to mention, Norman Hunter, Paul Reaney and Jack Charlton to name a few. One of our best midfileders, Terry Hibbitt, was a reserve at leeds who couldnt get a game. -

Rather than discussing whether we should let Lascelles go if a bid comes in we should be more worried that big bids for the likes of Gayle, Shelvey, Mitro and Richie are made in January. The EPL clubs all have loads of dosh sloshing around so we may have trouble hanging on to these players if silly bids are made.
