  1. So if Everton sold Stones to Chelsea, that means he mustn't be a good defender either? Of all the bizarre comments in defence of a player I've seen on here, that's got to be near the top. Wish some people would realise that sometimes a player isn't good enough, or isn't suited to a club/league. It is OK to admit that some of the players that Pardew didn't rate aren't world class.
  2. They did. Whatever empty seats there were last season were still bought, people just didnt go for whatever reason Really? They've had so many empty seats in recent seasons, even for some pretty important games.
  3. I've always said he won't under or overachieve. The results and performances have been what you'd expect so far. Badly need reinforcements.
  4. Wonder if this thread will go silent when he messes up like last week?
  5. Because surely Lyon scouted him, and if he's as terrible as you are trying to make out, then why have they paid over 8-10mil euros for him. I'm not making out he's terrible at all. All I said was that he wasn't the great success at Roma that many of our fans like to think he was (hence his move after one year and mixed opinions amongst Roma fans). Ah right, just like I never said he would be a star at Roma, or a great success. Nice one. You reacted angrily when I suggested he hasn't been a great success at Roma, but apologies if I misunderstood your opinion of him.

  7. I won't be blaming him for our start. A draw against Saints and a 2-0 defeat to Swansea (even with 11 men) is kinda what you'd expect from a team of our standard. Sad but true these days. Definitely some positive signs, but assuming we don't beat Man U and Arsenal, we'll need to start getting results and fast, nobody wants to see us in the bottom 3 even in August. I'm happy he's here and Pardew ain't.
  8. Incorrect, but thanks for playing. TBF it's not incorrect. He is a tad overrated and is a liability defensively. Still better than a lot of what we got, but he wouldn't play for a lot of the teams in this league tbf. Thanks for your support! He's our best defender (and that has saved him from a lot of criticism), but he's cost us massively with needless red cards in recent league games. Quite a few goals he could have defended better too (Long last week and QPR's winner at the back end of last season).
  9. Glad to see people criticising him at last. Always thought he was a tad overrated and he's been a liability for a while.
  10. The only people who ever claimed Mapou was playing well for Roma were Newcastle fans... Aye he was s**** except for the performances in Seria A leading to Roma finishing 2nd, Mapou himself scoring a last minute winner against Lazio in the derby. And some decent appearances in the CL against Man City. That's off the top of my head. So 3 specific examples of games you saw, only one of which they actually won and one where his main contribution was not defensive. Sorry for believing the words of the people who regularly watch him. You're an idiot. Typically mature response! Let's be honest, you'd already decided he was gonna be a star for Roma the second he left us so why bother acknowledging the opinions of Roma fans and the fact they've sold him after one season. Or lets look at the fact he's played for Roma and now Lyon. Both in the CL. Not sure how Mapou taking a sideways (arguably backwards) step to Lyon is proof he was excellent for Roma.
  11. It was salvageable until the red card. Janmaat's let us down just like he did with his senseless red v Leicester last season. It's starting to look like we don't even have one dependable defender right now...

  15. aye what I hate is people who feel like they have an informed opinion on everything football related. Lost count of the number of people who don't watch Belgian football who seemed to be experts on Mitrovic and Mbemba for example.
  16. Had a major hand in the second too. Yeah but other than being involved in all of our goals he didn't really impact the game. Seen some rubbish posted about wor pap over the last few days. Who was it that said anybody could score the goals he scores? He has his flaws, but I still can't understand some of the criticism he gets when he's made a heck of a contribution over the years. Would a better striker match Cisse's record last season of the best number of goals per minute in the league? Not sure. I also reckon some people are in for a shock if they think replacing Cisse with Mitrovic is magically going to make us start creating more chances.
  17. I appreciate he has flaws, but still don't get how anyone could dismiss Papiss. Still a very important player.
  18. He did f*** all. He never has. I think people have underestimated how badly we needed a new left back.
  19. Janmaat? thought he was solid personally, nothing they did came down his side. Definitely at fault for the 2nd goal and could have done more for the first. Don't like to stick up for Williamson, but he'd have been crucified for both.
  20. Colback was instrumental in us earning a point today but I'm sure that won't stop some of the OTT negativity on here. Meanwhile Janmaat is virtually uncriticised despite playing his part in both Saints goals. Heaven forbid we might actually criticise one of the fashionable players!
  21. A lot of positives, but we'll achieve nothing with that defence. Even our best defender didn't cover himself in glory today.
  22. I know he's a 'character' and whatever, but that shit's gonna get tiresome if he's getting sent off (which he could well have been there) throughout the season. Cool it mitro.
  23. I don't think either are good enough tbh. I've been saying all summer we need a LB, neither Haidara and Dummett can play there all season.
  24. No disrespect, but it baffles me how anyone can see any positives in Obertan. If I was being generous, I'd say he puts in 2 competent performances a season.
