On reflection, and having seen the goal again, I think that's a bit harsh. Martial had the opportunity to pick his spot and could have gone either side. Dubravka momentarily shifted his weight to the left because Martial looked like he was going for the far post, and then couldn't get down quite quick enough to save at the near. The main fault had to lie with the defence in general, for allowing an opposition player so much time and space in the penalty area. Aye, it's a weak attempt at a save, but what was Fernandes doing? Never been a CB so I don't know what they're coached to do, but I would have thought the sensible thing would be for the CB to close of the near post and leave the keeper to defend his goal, but he runs away from it. We conceded a similar goal, earlier in the season, when Clark did the same.

The difference between Longstaff last season and this is between his ears. Expectations have been raised, opposition players are now aware of him, and he's under more pressure. A lot on here are blaming Bruce, but Longstaff is the only one whose form has dipped significantly, and I don't see that he's being asked to play a different role. He's in the middle of a second season syndrome, and isn't handling it properly yet. But I strongly believe he'll come good again. This is what exactly what I think. He will come good. I actually think the Longstaff brothers can become a good pairing in midfield. Think they will compliment each other really well. But they need more experience. A 3 man midfield of them and Almiron in a free role would be nice. They're at the stage of their career when a good coach can make or break them. I'm making no predictions.
