Not sure about that first bit mind. Certainly Barnes was better in the latter stages of last season, and rightfully stayed in the team. But this season I’d say he’s been as hit and miss as Gordon. Barnes had a good run around beating Man City, but tailed off a bit to the point where it was probably a 50/50 call as to who should start LW. Howe went with Gordon and I feel he’s been vindicated as he’s looked our most dangerous player in most games since then, even if that’s not a view widely shared on here. I think they both start tonight like.

Not even sure why this even questioned, rationally anyway, as opposed to heat of the moment when he’s had a poor game. Obviously, he shouldn’t play every single game, and there’s been times where it’s been right to give Barnes a bit of a run. But ultimately Howe will always go back to Gordon because he’s the better player. That’s why he gets picked for England.
