  1. Spent last season worried about key injuries (everytime Schar went down e.g.) and felt we were at our limits to play the way we did without being able to rest and alternate much, so with CL football on top of that I think we'd be guaranteed to drop back a bit as things stand. Luckily it would only be temporary (more 1995 than 2004).
  2. Remember that story about the official history of Aston Villa video having a team photo of Burnley on the front? (or was it the other way round?) Villa's strips in my time alternate so much a "Villa strip" isn't really defined except the colours. Claret and Blue then any shirt selection on Kick Off 2 will do. Sleeves, stripes, cluster fuck and nowt.
  3. Yeah. I think the waste of good players like that, that would have belonged at a proper NUFC, was sadder to me than all the planks.
  4. File with Wolves, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Sheffield United, La Liga, Serie A, Neves, Messi, Ronaldo, Benzema, Milinkovic-Savic, Gerrard, Firmino and Fowler taking their money under 'whataboutery' The only entity that takes Saudi money in football that counts is us.
  5. Bring back being able to take commentators off altogether and just go with crowd noise. Sad that when you could do this commentary was generally well regarded.
  6. Its like the SJH/Keegan era where they couldn't leave anything alone, in a good way. Always looking to enhance something. The tunnel, dug outs, the afforementioned lettering on the East Stand, the crest on the Leazes
  7. and just to cover every possible base, they don't want the 'turn coat' types supporting them anyway and its better with just 30,000 loyal fans yet if they were to get bigger gates that shows how massive they are.

    Harvey Barnes

It is a good price for Barnes. Without ffp you'd say it was a no brainer. Is there honey still for tea though. I agree (liked) the essence of that but there are equal non-existent stat fields that would be negative about ASM. Still better to read the game yourself than use stats as a basis, we underestimate our own ability to tell whether a player has played well or not.

    Harvey Barnes

Think its based on games we drew and couldn't break teams down like Leicester and Leeds that on another day get won comfortably with the same performances but generally I was more concerned that our goals often didn't reflect our dominance of games and chances created rather than a problem of creativity.
  10. No point having one as their fanbase is apparently too GQ to wear football shirts. A stylish embroidered SAFC badge on a bowler hat and the inner lining of a three piece suit is more their thing.
  11. Somebody viewable in the background of the cricket on a close up for three seconds minding his own business wearing a Newcastle shirt has attracted their ire today. Definitely not on the edge if that rattles you.
  12. Some people will be deferring to the league tables and avoid engaging their brains and just go "5th"
  13. Exactly where I'm at. Think next season PL-wise will be like 94/95, drop a place or two, but in the bigger picture you know its all going forward and gearing up all the while, so can't get vexed
  14. Didn't get that with Pistone. Who shockling over 20years ago cost nearly the same amount. Thanks again Kenny.
  15. Not saying he's full of shit but he's hardly experienced judge of things and his memory may be playing tricks on him as I think we've played Ipswich at home all of twice in over 20years and once in over 13years and specifically remember seeing some in Bourgouines (or however it spelled) where we were and Rosies prior to that in 2000/01 01/02.
  16. Not supporting, in fact disliking, the England national team/fans/media has come up trumps again
  17. Heard an interesting take on this recently that some people will ethically source their coffee but paying into an illegal crime an slave ridden drugs trade without the slighest compunction.
  18. England have played friendlies against and in Saudi Arabia. Sir Bobby famously getting the "in the name of Allah go". They're fighting rebels trying to take over in Yemen who themselves are commiting those crimes. Its bad enough without the exile-esque misrepresentation of what's going on like its for no reason, deliberately targeted and they haven't been invited by the Yemeni government to help them stop an Iranian backed rebellion. Having said that I'm totally against the friendly. Agree. Its a new trend of people backing themselves into corners with their stances on some things but being selective about where to apply it. Most people haven't done that so can, for example, buy trainers without ethically sourcing whether they've come from a sweatshop without meaning that they are 'pro sweatshop/slave labour' without contradiction.
  19. Blackburn 13years earlier. Pre Premier League. A nothing second division club that had honestly just averaged just over 8,000 tried to sign the captain of England, then lure a manager who had won the league a year earlier out of retirement, spent astronomically by the standards of the day to get promoted (£6m in one year, only Ferguson had spent more a few years earlier at Man U and that was considered wild) and broke the British record transfer the following summer. A true underdog story, as its since been rewritten as. Don't think there was ever a consideration to stop it then because it would have looked like exactly what it was. Basically cheating to maintain your spot at the top unchallenged.
  20. and that would just be a smokescreen to make it look like we were actually trying to do at least something, which we wouldn't be. Halcyon days.
  21. Maddison to Spurs the top thread in Pure Football NUFC Sportswashing the top thread in Parsnip even splitting the audience we dominate the ratings
  22. He's also said he wanted to go to a team in the Champions League
  23. Nobody is coughing up a wedge like that with ffp restrictions. Another win for the little clubs.
  24. Viz 'Celebrity C*nts' parodied that shirt police thread 20years is how tragic it is. With the poster always coming off as hard or having intellectually bested the flawed out of place celebrity somehow. Hope for Gipetto's sake that incident was when he was about 13 such is the originality, witlessness and crassness but am resigned to think he and his mates were at least 30.
  25. Part of it will be not wanting to join a rival club to Spurs
