  1. Were their 'rivals' and we don't even know why their current nickname is what it is or their badges. or any of their players for that matter.
  2. Not looking more into it - but they definitely didn't from at least 1966-1997
  3. Used to be some stripes and a ship from when I got into football until 97 when it coincidentally, like the strip, was re-modelled and came up looking a lot like ours
  4. I heard it was someone else that gave the name and having massive identity issues they took it. Some American tour the old man says. Maybe that's where the black shorts that weren't always there came in, to justify it.
  5. spot on. You can't win the league with two different clubs, finish runner up three times, play in the champions league for three different clubs, command big transfers every move and always trading up, play in world cups and euro's, only play for top clubs of the day, always be a first choice and be probably our best performer in the best team I ever seen us have, if your estimation of Batty is accurate, though everyones entitled not to like someone. He wasn't as good as those going forward, was a lot closer to Speed than Speed was to the others, but none of them were as good as him defensively and I've not seen anybody better at winning all kinds of balls back. His pass into Beardsley for the winner against QPR is perfect. He clips that in or rolls it in, the space gets closed down by the time Beardsley gets it. Not sure anybody else fires it in like that.
  6. Were gonna get it. No disappointments if we don't play well either.
  7. Great craic Rotterdam or anywhere Liverpool or Rome - predicted the finalists
  8. Yeah dominance is 89 CL: Milan UC: Napoli CWC Sampdoria lose final 90 CL Milan UC: Juventus v Fiorentina, CWC: Sampdoria 91 UC: Roma v Inter 92 CL: Sampdoria final, CWC: Torino final 93 CL: Milan lose final, CWC: Parma win, UC: Juventus win 94 CL: Milan win, CWC: Parma lose final, UC: Inter win 95 CL: Milan lose final, UC Parma v Juventus 96 CL: Juventus win 97: CL: Juventus lose final, UC: Inter lose final 98: CL: Juventus lose final, UC: Inter v Lazio
  9. Just realised, RB apart, we've played all the teams in these Euro semis.
  10. Should come out to Charly by the Prodigy in honour of their owner. Got the cat noises and everything. Ideal really.
  11. Invaded the pitch at the beamback against Boro in 90 like nearly everybody else just so as we could see the actual 'big screen'. Alas we'd have been better off looking at the sun spot from the other side of the ground.
  12. Was a disaster for them. Rarely fit.
  13. Anelka and Souness definitely wouldn't have worked. Well Souness and anybody really on the footballing side but that was just asking for trouble.
  14. Nope. Had a bad feeling about it and always thought he was monstrously overrated, which by the time we paid all that money out, had already been proven. Had a Ronaldo to Inter feel about it, too much money, focus. Except you can't compare the two for talent - except the media here fkn did for years.
  15. Darlington and Spennymoor are miles away and in different counties with no NUFC ties and probably at least as many anti-NUFC fans as pro. The point is that Gateshead are the most prominent local non-league team and just happen to be adjacent to Newcastle with a lot of ties.
  16. I kinda has happened to us though. the PL not the CL obviously but on a much harsher scale than Man City cos it might have been our best and only chance 1-0 up at Blackburn and cruising after losing a last minute goal at Liverpool the week before having lead twice, and losing two goals in the last few minutes to a blokes fifteen seconds of fame rest of my life, Barcelona 97 aside, has felt just a show since
  17. They'll recover cos they'll go close again next season, I think that's part of why they're not that passionate, they know they'll be back for the league/CL the next season and have as good a chance as any. For us in 96, might have been our only shot. Not that I/we ever got over that mind.
  18. Man City just aren't blessed/lucky in this competition. Real Madrid and Liverpool most definitely are and always have been.
  19. If these massive fanbases manifested themselves in attendances neither of them would be in the third tier but games in the PL at either ground where there weren't thousands of empty seats were rare.
  20. First semi-final they might fill the ground for since us in 1990. Palace empty seats, Man U league-cup semi half-full, Portsmouth half-full. But aye go on about how great your support is for a one off like its typical and get exceptions and rules mixed up
  21. Klopp drug a performance out of them again
  22. That's up near the airport no? What a mate reckons anyway
  23. Giveth with one hand and takes away with the other fkn Boringmouth 1 up
  24. Luton's ground is horrible but so unique I'm glad its still there. Got there for the 94 cup game, terraces above seating at one end, all exectuive boxes to the left, ramshackle old stand to the right and in the away end you basically have to walk through a regular house and up the stairs and across the back garden to get into.
