He's a shadow striker AM hybrid for me. It looks like today suited him.

The 10 men point applies to every Newcastle player's performance then. I've no problem with our supposedly worst performing player getting 2 assists like, but maybe that's just me.
-
Two assists, one of which was a goal if it's left alone is the exact opposite of 'producing little.'
-
Almost 70% possession again. I know it was against 10 men, but it still feels alien and brilliant that we can be that dominant
-
Think of it this way, for the dropped 4 points vs Palace and Bournemouth, we made up 2 unexpected points vs Man City and Brighton. All during a run where we've had injuries as well. We're in really good shape in the circumstances.

fuming

Good player in his day. One of those players that often got dismissed as shit when they weren't.
-
FWIW I don't think I've ever seen a more extreme case of Harry Maguire like. On one hand you're talking about a big money flop who looks like he'll make a mistake every time he's near the ball at Man United. On the other hand we're also talking about someone who became England's all time goalscoring defender early on and until last night was a completely different player.
-
Likewise we also saw last night that club and international football are different beasts. Who on here or in our fanbase would have forseen Pope dropping a clanger like he did last night? Yet the argument up until then has been 'how is he not ahead of Pickford!?!' Prior to Trippier being here, he was often the 'him!?!' question when line ups were announced, yet in that opening match when no one could believe he started at left back he was class. It's a really difficult one to guage imo.

I take the point like and them not playing is obviously an issue, but while they continue to perform for England (up until very recently) it makes absolute sense that they would continue to get game time. Shaw was for me the best player at Euro 2021, Maguire up until recently has been putting the performances in for England. If you look at England like you would a club, why would you drop players who are performing for you or have performed for you and work in the system? The argument used to be that England managers picked 'the best' players at the best clubs without any thought for rhyme or reason. So what's the argument now? That Southgate should go back to that? I get that there's a middle ground but I don't think it's ridiculous to pick a team that's worked for you either. And it's not really unusual. Miroslav Klose regularly played badly or didn't get game time for his clubs then would play for Germany and perform. Heskey and Crouch weren't the best but they were picked because they worked for England. On the other side we all know that Gerrard and Lampard were the best but were shite for England.
-
Reputations stick and I think we've been exposed to Pickford's clangers more than any other opposition fanbase. Agree with you though, the whole "Why does Pickford start?" question is irritating and it's irritating when it's asked about Maguire as well tbh.
-
Bizarre game. One where it's hard to work out how Germany scored 3 and how England only scored 3.
-
The least we deserve tbh, should probably be about 4-1 up all things considered.
-
Say what you want about Mason Mount when he's at Chelsea, he always delivers for England.
-
No idea why this keeps getting asked when the answer is always the same. Because despite being shit for Man United, he's generally been very good for England. Same as Pickford and his shakiness for Everton, he's never let England down. Maguire's England's all-time goal scoring defender as well.

Missed most of the second half but we should have been 2 or 3 up by half time. Atrocious finishing and final ball from Sterling and Foden.
