Watched the 5-0 again last night but have also been meaning to say for a while that David Batty doesn't get enough of a shout out for his performance in that match. Arguably man of the match tbh.

I thought he was class. Very good at Real Madrid as well, I always thought it was a bit weird that hardly anything was made of him scoring the goal that decided the Champions League final as well.

I'll be canny relieved if it's off, but of fucking course the issue is to do with broadcasting profits and not for any ethical reason.

Genuinely, have any of you ever considered that people with shared viewpoints just don't agree with your opinions? It seems to me that you're all just framing it as some weird stone cutters sort of thing because you can't handle that your opinions are unpopular with a lot of people on here. Again, none of it even makes any sense anyway because half of the supposed clique left last year and yet here you all are claiming it still exists, presumably because your opinions are still unpopular on the forum.

Not to mention it was actually half of the supposed 'clique' that walked away.

I used to take what .com said seriously because it seemed like they were often right, but from around 2007-ish onwards when they claimed Deco was signing they've been wrong fairly regularly.

Easy to forget that if we'd beaten Blackburn, as we should have, we'd have been level on points once the games in hand had been played, with a very similar goal difference. Man United then went to Southampton and lost as well. That match felt like the nail in the coffin at the time and it still does now. I still think if we'd won that one match we'd have gone on to win the title.

It's funny because I'd argue that it's actually a myth that we were bad at the back under Keegan when we weren't. Players made individual mistakes, but looking back now the only obvious weakness was our goalkeepers. Darren Peacock in particular was way better than I remember him being at the time.

The Hughton era was never about quality tbf, it was about team spirit, 'the group of lads', and our feeling of having a connection with them. The football in say 11/12 was better, we had better players, won more matches, finished higher in the league etc, but I enjoyed it a lot more in 09/10 and half of 10/11 because of the feeling of togetherness between the team, Hughton, and the fans. Everyone since then bar Rafa hasn't had that and it's something Ashley hated imo.

Towards the end I remember him trying to tell us all that he wasn't Ashley's yes man and something along the lines of him actually trying to push for the things we wanted, but the loathing for him was so intense that when he tried to tell us pretty much everyone rejected it.
