Think we are all aware that there is nothing we can or will do if and when a player wants to leave. He is at the very top of the tree in his position, he can do better than us and I would wish him well if he goes in an above board way. I would also be devastated to lose him, but we are where we are. Get replacements in (like Smit); young/early career hopefuls in to bolster the ranks and we may well maintain our current status while we build towards moving on to being title contenders in any competition we enter.

Here’s a thought start both ‘Gordy’ and Harvey on the left. That will perplex the feckers! Reminds me of an anecdote in that podcast with Scholes, Butt and Given. Sir Bobby put Woodgate man to man on van Nistelrooy in a home game against Manure; basically instructed him to follow him wherever he went. Ferguson twigged this and told RvN to pull out wide, left corner flag etc when they were attacking. We got beat 6-2, Scholes scored a hat trick and it was the most goals Given ever conceded. Punchline? Apparently in a depressed NUFC dressing room, Bobby quipped ‘I told you though, van Nistelrooy barely had a kick.’

Plus they have two powerful voices and exceptional players in Salah and Van Dijk who look over the hill or at least past their best, at 33 and 34, and are not taking it well. They have lost a key player TAA and have brought in three extremely expensive forwards, at least a couple of whom have questionable personalities.

Not even sure how much we need to win, still haven’t got my head around the new format/had a close look. Not feeling optimistic though this is superficially based on them beating Man City away and our sketchy away form.
