That was immense. Real flashbulb memory of it, though, and not sure why, hearing that Keegan had replaced Ardiles as manager in 1992, still stands out as biggest moment for me. Loved the man and saw it as a sea change; the start of a new era. And to be fair it was (albeit temporarily) one hell of a time to be a Newcastle fan.

My summary does sound a bit harsh, and I didn’t imagine you did mean that (in such stark terms). But you did say that he say he lies through his teeth, says the opposite of what he really means, and implied he had no consideration for his outgoing players. 🤷♂️

Personally, I don’t see him as being a callous duplicitous liar (unsurprisingly). He understands the need to upgrade and the current financial context but what you get from him is cards close to chest ‘need to know’ media stuff and a genuine warmth and affection for the young people who have played for him.

Think that’s the reason we’re looking at Thiaw. Guessing he’s first on the list and we’ll move on if the deal doesn’t come off.

“Player sales have also been discussed and it would appear increasingly certain that England international Kieran Trippier will be sold this summer, with interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. There are also doubts about midfielder Sean Longstaff, who only has a year left on his contract, as well as winger Miguel Almiron and centre forward Callum Wilson, who has picked up a back injury early in pre-season.” With all due respect to the players mentioned, it could be a phenomenal window if we can sell those four for decent ‘bunce’ and bring in improvements in two of the positions—perhaps stick with what we have in Midfield and use Longstaff funds elsewhere and Tripper funds/flexibility for a player capable of playing CB/RB (cover).

€8m one season loan, one year after €27.2m transfer. Thought they must have permanently signed him. -
From Stalybridge, which is in Tameside (one of the ten boroughs that make up Greater Manchester). Not far from Yorkshire border, even closer to Derbyshire, but very much (rural) Manc culturally.

Did he ask for the interview? Or was he just answering questions in a standard requested interview/PR piece? If latter then there is nothing to see here.

FINALLY! (Living up to your name 😉)

I don’t see any difference to standard Eddie stuff. He plays with a straight bat, whilst always diplomatic, I really admire his honest, articulate, humorous and assertive style. He’s a genuine person and backs himself enough to know what he is worth.

Ahh! The sweet scent of rationality.

Love watching the standing jumps, for some reason it always seems the most impressive exercise. Dummett was NBA standard!
-
Well, not that I’m likely to be on the list (pity the fools…), but I’ve been away too and neither did I.

Watching this in a Scottish hotel. Already murmurs of Y viva Espana in the air! They better not knock the telly off if we’re winning!

My rosy crystal ball predicts early ‘fret’ and then finish on a highly respectable 74 points.

Wasn’t it just! Whilst Watkins had a lot to do, have to applaud Palmer’s incisive pass. Just perfect. Alongside the pass from Gordon’s cameo as our best thus far. -

It’s always exciting having new/existing good young players to come through. Not at the expense of guaranteed first team starters though or, as things stand financially, being able to fill gaps elsewhere.

Love the Schar clip in that. Just after meets Tripps, about 3.00 mins.

Welcome Phil, was your grant as much of a tosser as he seemed? or This is a new role at a club with big aspirations, what makes you think you are the right person for the job? and/or What is the remit of your new role and how what, in your opinion, will be most important to ensure it adds value?

I’ve heard he’s learning Portuguese. (… pssst I haven’t but some people are craving rumours and I’m a helpful sort).
