Then and Prefab Sprout. Great bands. Are they linked to Sunderland? Recall they were both on a Newcastle record label.

Ahh… the voice of reason 😉

Managed par, overshot by one for a birdie, then tap in with a little help from people mentioning Schmeichel had scored one goal.

Makes interesting reading. 82% think Woltemade’s a hit. 73% think Ekitike’s a hit. 72% think Pedro’s a hit. 42% think Gyokeres‘s a hit. 25% think Sesko’s a hit. 20% think Calvert-Lewin’s a hit. 9% think Ekitike’s understudy is a hit. I mean I know it is early days and fans are voting but we might have just fallen on our feet striker wise.

Crying out for another Jamal. Or two more Svens/Malicks/Fabians they haven’t made it easy… Dan! We need two more Dans.

Inspired by Tuchel’s England, I’ve been thinking about getting the balance in the first team right. Couple of things spring to mind, in order to ensure we pick the team which complements each other rather than just naively play the best players. 1. We shouldn’t have let Jamal Lewis go; 2. This has made a quite tricky situation balancing our defenders even harder. First 11: Nick P Jamal La Jamal Le(plz come back) Lil’ Joe Big Joe Ant E Ant G Jacob M Jacob R Nick W (anyone else noticed this? It’s verging on being like a Tindale wind-up…)

Should we invite @13and3Dozen to the mass debate circle Bobby? Not sure we’ve, checks messages, ‘sniffed his bum’ enough yet.

Found this link (on .com) about Mike Jefferies who conceived of and produced the Goal! movies. Quite a story! https://thesefootballtimes.co/2018/02/14/from-real-madrid-and-newcastle-to-beckham-and-zidane-how-the-goal-movie-franchise-was-built/

Was about to say I am not angry with you/your point. But, on reflection, I think I am. Well, more exasperated. What more do you want? If you’re a PSR nonce (it’s the word of the week!) what more did you expect? You didn’t mention transfer spend, but you said you don’t blame him for going as he was sold a project that the club didn’t follow through on and that you’re unimpressed by the slowness and inaction of the ownership. Transfer spend is surely relevant to that. Indicative of an ownership trying to build a better squad (remember what the opposite felt like?). Spending what we/they can, overstretching at one point. Look at the improvements last three years (3.5 actually) to previous? You’re unimpressed? Just doesn’t land well man. Comes across like you’re bemoaning the warm weather and your noisy aircon whilst forgetting what it’s like to freeze your bollocks off in the pissing rain.

And well known for fiddling with his horn… . Rascal. Hope your lass took it as a compliment @huss9 rather than feeling offended.

You don’t blame him for going when and how he did? Well that is remarkably magnanimous of you. Putting the preferences and ambitions of one player above the club you like/love. He was sold a project that the club didn’t follow through on? You’re unimpressed by the slowness and inaction of the ownership therefore no surprise that he was? He joined a club, as a 22 year old, at the beginning of the 2022-23 season. In the previous three seasons he had averaged 11 league goals and 34 appearance per season for Sociedad. This is after his first ‘big move’ to Dortmund wasn’t the raging success expected, ‘the new Zlatan’ making five appearances over two seasons and then being loaned as surplus to requirements to Willem II. NUFC, the club/‘project’ he joined, had in the previous three seasons put together the following run of results. 2019-2020: 13th in Premier League, out in the QF of FA Cup and 2nd round of LC. Played 45, won 14; scored 55. Known transfer spend £65m. 2020-2021: 12th in Premier League, out in the 3rd round of FA Cup and QF of LC. Played 43, won 14; scored 50. Known transfer spend £35m. 2021-22: 11th in the Premier League, out in the 3rd round of FA Cup and 2nd round of LC (we definitely would have been relegated without the mid season change of manager). Played 40, won 13; scored 44. Known transfer spend £25m preseason; £110m January. As well as the January post take-over, pre ‘Voldemort’ transfer kitty (Trippier, Wood, Bruno, and Burn; plus Targett loan) in his three seasons NUFC have: 2022-23: 4th in the Premier League, 3rd round of FA Cup and final round of LC. Played 46, won 24; scored 77. Known transfer spend: £171m. 2023-24: 7th in the Premier League, QF of FA Cup and QF round of LC. Group stage Champions League. Played 51, won 23; scored 102. Known transfer spend: £134m. 2024-25: 5th in the Premier League, 5th round of FA Cup and Winners of LC. Qualified Champions League. Played 48, won 28; scored 88. Known transfer spend: £43m. So I get that last season is a disappointing investment (for well known reasons) but in total post takeover known spend on players totals £458m, versus £125m in the comparison period. Cups wise, two quarter finals, two cup finals, one winners’s trophy, two Champions League qualifications versus two quarter finals. League wise finishing 5th ish rather than 12th ish. General performance wise, winning 75 games rather than 41; celebrating 267 goals rather than 149. I’m stopping now before waxing lyrical about who we have played, some of the performances, the sheer joy of some of the play, or the general sense of hope optimism and identity the club has regained. Such things won’t probably be relevant to ‘that’ former player’s negative feelings. I think they should be to yours though. Remind me again, beyond a limited spend last season (because we couldn’t not because we didn’t want to) why you think he was sold a project the club hasn’t followed through on? Why he and you are so unimpressed? I mean what kind of improvement was he expecting? There is no valid justification to his actions; his ego outgrew his heart. And more to the point what the fuck were you expecting that would justify your disappointment?

Apparently we need him to have his Horcrux destroyed. Not a Potter expert, but sorry lads this may involve smashing our Carabao cup copy. “Voldemort is made powerless by his severed connection to the physical world after his body was destroyed ( ✅), as a spirit without a body he couldn't cast spells without a wand (ouch ✅). His powerlessness also stems from the fact that his Horcruxes were destroyed, which are the anchors tethering his soul to the living world, leaving him with only a broken and diminished soul (…fuck, see ya League Cup) Furthermore, his inability to love is his greatest weakness (him to a tee ✅) and prevents him from understanding its powerful magic.”

Not sure it is just effort, trust me I really wanted a cup final ticket (and nearly paid a silly amount of money for one—more for one ticket than I paid for two vs Man Utd) and tried everything I thought might work to get a more affordable one (or two). I wonder whether there’s an advantage of having a Tyneside postcode in the ballot? The tickets for Sunderland at home were showing as available (Shearer’s bar) but I couldn’t buy one via the site. Rang them and emailed. Surprisingly they got back and took payment over the phone. Said (which seems ridiculous) that because I didn’t have a (I quote) ‘North Eastern postcode’ my purchase was blocked. Not like there aren’t any Makems living in Tyneside.
-
Great effort. I’ve never won one (though only applied for about 8 in last couple of seasons). Last four times at SJP have had to (chosen to) pay through nose for corporate or dodgy tickets. I was amazed to read you got a cup final ticket. First person I have heard of who got one this way. So lucky man!
-
What are you on about? Are you trying to pass Scholes off as some kind of super sub?? Is he not one of their players with the highest number of appearances? Just checked third highest behind Ryan Giggs and Bobby Charlton. 718 appearances (almost twice as many as Shearer had for us).

Gillespie soiling himself made me spit my tea out. Mimicking Rob Lee ringing Shearer to tell on him, and Shearer ringing him up and calling him a Makem bastard. Phil Albert’s Sid the Sexist patter and standing around with his tadger out 😂Discussing Sir Les’s ‘anatomy’… . “We are all very close, still got all the lads’ numbers in my phone.” There’s a few who won’t be answering his calls now!

‘Kin hell! Full disclosure from Howey! Some of those stories, man. Absolutely cracked me up.

He’s had a few great attacking involvements lately. What a term to come up with! But you know what I mean, nice passes/assists, good runs to pull defenders away, generally being a right fucking nuisance. It’s like he’s channeling Keegan style coaching—“go out and chuck a few grenades”.
