Build a new state of the art hospital on Castle Leazes, which will be an easier sell to the public than a football stadium, then level the RVI and put the Saudidome there New hospital will have to be taller on average to fit in the space and will no doubt block light to Leazes Terrace alas
  3. Sunderland looking likely to go up this season I guess, from the current leading position and the fixtures they've got left. Could maybe do without the derby next year and pass them going the other way at the end of next season
  4. Nice impartial questions there Cameron
  5. Football has always been parochial for me, it's less about admiring and pursuing pure technical brilliance than it's about the feeling of belonging to something, and getting some pride from something local. I get the exact same buzz from watching the lasses that I did when I started going to watch the men 25 years ago. I'm a very reserved and quiet person by nature and it's only a Newcastle team that can make me shout until I'm hoarse, or be the only voice yelling support in a big crowd. Absolutely loving it since I started going this year.
  6. It's one of the reasons I'm drawn to non league and the women's game at the minute, just a much purer football experience for me these days. The shit that surrounds the top flight mens game is almost intolerable. I was at Alnwick Town yesterday and some lad who played for Killingworth had a proper pop at the referee, for which he was rightly sent off. Premier refs either told not to, or too scared to do it.

Honestly could have taken or left it until I found myself on Northumberland Street and Haymarket bus station ten minutes before kickoff vs. City. Glimpses of the level 7 lights from all over the place and I'd forgotten how monumental it sounds from the town; then everybody spilling out afterwards and not just heading for cars then going home. Getting on for a unique experience now I guess, it's to be treasured.
  8. Hopefully not given in retribution for Salah being a cheating diving cunt
  9. Friend of mine paid about £35 for two tickets at the Etihad for the Manchester derby, it's not super expensive even at the top (not yet anyway)

    St James' Park

This is absolutely true, but all that stuff is still inconveniently there, and there's a canny bit of it all around the area we're talking about. I feel like at some point the majestic vision is inevitably going to be over the road from abandoned unit #20 with a faded sign that used to say "Jones & Sons Poultry Byproducts, ltd." I honestly hope they buy it all and level it, put beautiful golf course turf down and build that stadium with the bridges in the background. I really do, I would miss SJP but I'd get over it. I suppose for all the talk about nothing being a difficulty for them, I just don't feel like the Saudis will be looking to recreate NEOM in Elswick

I just don't see them buying up hundreds of billions of square miles of land, moving out all the existing businesses and tenants and landscaping the whole thing to create what some of you seem to be visualising like

As has already been pointed out, it looks like there are in places around 40 metres of ascent between Skinnerburn and Scotswood Roads, which is about the same height as the rooftop tour that they do at SJP. How are we dealing with that? Banking up the whole thing to create a gigantic wall above the riverside road with a huge stadium on top, or building it into the bank side like a Hobbit stadium with Scotswood Road and its garages sat on top? Kevin McCloud would love the latter I reckon. Could be like Kenilworth Road except you get in through a one storey entrance between a builders merchant and a Toyota dealership and the pitch is way below you
  14. Not going to be spectacularly well attended by the looks; shame but no surprises I guess given the distance. Our half of the main stand (blue still available, the 5% furthest left grey ones weren't available for sale) And the hashtag half (the 10% furthest right grey ones weren't available) Can't even begin to estimate what sort of numbers that represents and can't be bothered to count dots should be at least as many as were at Burnley though, and that was great
  15. That was my first thought when I heard he'd resigned like
  16. Alnwick Town absolutely woeful today against bottom of the league Killingworth who played really well, much better than their lowly status would suggest. Alnwick second best all over and couldn't capitalise on the visitors being down to 10 for probably the majority of the game with a combination of sin binning and red carding. 1-2, after initially leading.

I don't think there's any argument that the arena is significantly further away from where it's all going on, it's just that the walk to the arena area is through a bit of a grim hinterland of roads and dereliction and industrial estate whichever way you do it. Would feel city centre the same way as the mackems stadium does to me, close but kinda not quite.

Would definitely agree with the second one. East of Pilgrim Street (including Pilgrim Street) would have been just about perfect if they had got in five years ago before all the new building started, I reckon

You'll have to get rid of the Laing then stifler, or are you rerouting the motorway?
