  1. We had the other end of the ground so a lot of fans never went near Wembley way or Baker St
  2. Agree, the draw away at Bournemouth and losing to Fulham are poor results given the season aims and the quality at the top of the table this season. Got to look to win this one
  3. The squad is still wafer thin. Without Longstaff, who is proven as a competent PL cm there is only Joelinton, Bruno, Willock, Tonali with Miley coming through. with 433 Howe typically uses 5 CMs every game, so the squad needs 6 ideally 7 CMs to have any injury or suspension cover. so do you really want to buy a backup CM next summer and take that budget away from CB and RW? Good chance anyone who comes in to replace him will be a similiar level, as the offer and budget is come be a backup. Lo ngstaff has only played so much as Tonali got himself a season long suspension He may want to leave given the toxic element of the fan base is targeting him every game and he could go elsewhere and start. There’s a few players who got grief at Newcastle but had decent careers elsewhere, be the next Dan Gosling. But if he goes you can chop £10m off the budget for RW and CB to replace him.
  4. If a new build is twice the price, and so at least £800m more on those costings it is going to have to deliver a lot more revenue than the rebuild to make it worthwhile financially. If they take a 30 year payback period a new build needs to bring in an extra £25m a year vs a rebuild. If a new build has an extra 10,000 seats, each seat has to delivery an extra £2,500 per year in profit. Don’t expect any cheap seats!
  5. Decent analysis but why does he say the same thing over and over, could have been 2 minutes not 10
  6. Not surprised La liga not committing, Barcelonas accountants will be dead against given how busy the heir summer is already
  7. Let’s hope the bald fraud sticks around for as long as possible. The standard at the top looks high this year and Chelsea are in a better shape so be helpful if Man Utd implode in their place
  8. He doesn’t mean it, it’s another dig at Arteta. If they get beat and it’s in March he’d be horrid or if he considered Newcastle title rivals. He’s an excellent manager and that includes using press conferences for the mind games they all try.
  9. Sandro to come off the bench and sort it out after 55mins

    The Other 18

My guess is Chelsea have done something novel with wages. It’s widely reported their salaries are low, sub £100k. That hasn’t made much sense as why would a player being signed for 50m agree to that. I reckon they’ve done something with future transfer fees or something that boosts the cash the players get. For example if he’s sold before 2033, maybe Chelsea have to pay up his entire contract in full. Then for him adding a few years is guaranteeing more money like a higher salary, but he has to wait for it tl;dr Chelsea have found a new wheeze (or think they have)
  11. Well devils advocate if you just do L7, and move all the east stand season ticket holders up there, and redo the east stand you could turn the whole east stand corporate and get most of the income. Swap season ticket holders paying hundreds for boxes earning thousands. Easiest way to boost revenue, as it’s the corporate option that is lacking compared to other grounds. You said you think a new stadium would be multi billions, that won’t get paid for out of season tickets costing thousands. It depends on what the Board decide the aim of the stadium is. Atmosphere or cash.
  12. They are not going to announce a new stadium with a design and a new location in one go. The first question is whether to build a new one or rebuild SJP, that’s all that will be decided initially. A new stadium would cost at least £500m, more than the club cost, it’s not going to be a quick decision. It will go all the way up the chain at PIF.The longer it takes the more serious its being taken so if you want a new stadium the delay is a good sign. If the decision is a new build I doubt they’ll only have one location, more likely a shortlist with a preferred option. The club don’t own Leazes park so be crazy to announce a new stadium on land owned by someone else. It would become the Guehi of land purchases
  13. Don’t think it’s surprising that Newcastle fans aren’t keen on rules that allow Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs to spend double on squad costs than Newcastle Man City aren’t accused of actual crimes, they are accused of breaking rules plucked out of thin air to thwart Man City’s growth
  14. Pretty crazy that James Bond came down in favour of the deal
  15. Found guilty on a handful of charges. Get some actual punishment. City Appeal result. Punishment downgraded to minor fine and some suspended points deduction that then never happens.
  16. The independent regulator is going to be a disaster. Last thing football needs is another bunch of suits interfering. They will expand their mandate bit by bit until they are fiddling with everything, PSR will look light touch by the time they are done
  17. Am sure Tonali starts. The query was over match fitness after so long out and he’s now demonstrated that.
  18. Agree with most of the posts. I think with Kane you also have to reflect that he’s only 2.5 years older than Watkins and has proved himself in tournaments and in the CL as recently as last year. If you wave goodbye to Kane you are left with Watkins, Toney, Rashford or going in for some sort of false 9. Watkins probably seen as the best of the bunch but has played one season in Europe in total and only has 4 England goals. I don’t think it’s enough to ditch Kane for. I don’t know what the pipeline looks like but Gordon was the striker last year for the youngsters which to me suggests there may not be an obvious no9 coming through. TLDR: better to make it work with Kane as the alternatives don’t stack up (yet)
  19. Chelsea do a lot of this type of stuff, ordinary seats but with off site hospitality. I’m a bit twitchy on it as it allows areas of the ground unsuitable for traditional hospitality to be corporate - for example the gallowgate and east stand. Clearly revenue advantages though
  20. Yeah, unfortunately a few people blatantly and obviously taking the piss spoiled it for everyone. Hopefully in a season or two things can be relaxed a bit again, as it seemed to me the touting side exploded over the past 5 years, I think it was pre takeover as well. With 50 points and used to be able to go almost anywhere, and even pre covid found suddenly couldn’t get to games like West Ham anymore - and given regularly went to Upton Park, being unable to get tickets for the London stadium was odd, to me it suggests the touting had got out of control. Who knows the police may also have had a word with the club and told them to look at who is going as about the scale as around the same time the amount of coke in the away end exploded.
  21. Villa Park has a 42k capacity so if you hike every ticket by £40 for 4 CL games you’ve got an extra £6.7m. The corporate tickets have probably been hiked even further, I reckon their new prices have maybe made the club an extra £10m versus keeping their regular prices. And that’s just on the hike, its pure profit. Financially it makes perfect sense, under PSR even clubs whose owners are prepared to fund them are incentivised to fleece fans to boost revenue.
  22. Tbh that’s was every toon away trip.
  23. Not actually true. The ‘last’ row is the most expensive to build, as it’s the highest and furthest away - more stairs, more concrete, more steel. Means the last row has the lowest return on investment, as it has the highest cost to build and the lowest ticket price.

    Nicky Butt

I’d totally forgotten he played for the toon, despite probably watching every one of his home games. First season a disaster, but his later seasons he was decent. The sad truth is the club dropped down to his level and he was a decent pro, when the hope when he’d signed is that he’d lift the club. He did well in KKs 433
  25. I’m a Kane believer. I think he just needs players who get beyond him, like Gordon. Big question for Carsley is what he does when Foden, Bellingham and Palmer are fit. Is he a coward like Southgate and pick the 11 biggest names or does he pick a team. He’s shown the benefits of picking a team but it’s low stakes so far
