Nobody
6. Guthrie - while has been excellent at times, is still very young and should not be relied upon as a 1st team regular at the moment, a full season playing every game would definetely take its toll - before his suspension I thought he was looking jaded already. At 21, and having already played a full season with Bolton, we should be able to see him as a first team regular fitness wise. The league has been filled with younger players playing every week in the last few years.

traeir
Given/Harper Beye Coloccini Bassong Enrique Jonas Guthrie Barton Duff Owen Martins Cover and substitutes from Given/Harper, Taylor, Cacapa, Zogbia, Butt, Geremi, Gonzalez, Viduka, Xisco, Smith, Carrol, Shola and a few others. Realise the XI will be up for debate, and injuries and suspensions will always blur things but that side would be top 8 material imo and just shows how depleted and shapeless we've been in the last few weeks. Harper Edgar Taylor Cacapa Enrique butt Geremi smith Duff ameobi Carroll Looks much better to me
Guest
I think Enrique will go back to Spain in the summer and make a decent career for himself with someone like Real Betis or Deportivo.
Karjala
Given Beye Colo Bassong Enrique Jonas Geremi Guthrie N'Zog Owen Martins As much as i dont really rate him, Geremi seems to be involved in a good percentage of our goals.
pedro111
There is no way Duff is at LW before N'Zogbia.

Benwell Lad
I think what most of us agree on, if not the starting XI, is that we have a reasonable squad and good players when we get them all fit. The difference of opinions in the XI proves we have options too. In the last month we have been down to bare bones and having to play people out of position and that has been the main reason for the poor results. Our first choice XI will be a good Premiership team and over the course of a season injuries and suspensions means everyone will have a chance to play their part whether they're everyone's favourite or not. fredbob
Its strange but its been 4 years since we actually saw a consisent team who were playing well. Have to say i really liked the balance in the squad we had at the end of last season wth the 433. So id go for Beye Colo Bassong Enrique Guthrie Barton Jonas Owen Martins Viduka/Xisco There is alot of good qualities in that midfield which would make it work if you ask me, the most important feature being that they will all track back and provide excellent cover for the defence, whilst not changng anything natural to their respective games. That midfield is a definite upgrade from last seasons Butt, Geremi and Barton. The front 3 speak for themselves, there is an excellent blend there of pure ace, astute link play and supreme finishing. That's the one for me too. I would have Taylor still in there though with Colo for now. If Bassong continues to shine then fair enough. Maybe swap the positions of the midfield 3 too. Guthrie in the middle being the main sort of playmaker and Barton and Jonas being the industrious midfielders alongside him.

Mistle17
I really think Zogg should start ahead of Duff. Yes, Duff did score yesterday but other his second half yesterday, he's offered us nowt each time hes played. Personally, I rate Zogg as one of our most exciting players. At least he RUNS with the ball and gets us somewhere up the pitch. Where as Duff gets the ball tries to take someone on...realizes he cant so passes it back and we get nowhere. N'Zogbia is much more effective imo. Basson looks really good I think. Atm Id prefer him to Enrique. I think Enriques a good defender....like, he can defend its just he wasnt fully fit yesterday and clearly isnt playing with a lot of confidence. Low confidence can make a good player look like quite a poor player. Anyone who played/plays football will understand that. When we have a full squad to choose from, I'd pick: ------------------------------Given------------------------ ----Beye----------Taylor------Coloccini---------Bassong---- ---------Jonas-----------Guthrie------Barton------Zogg----- ---------------------Owen---------Martins/Viduka---------- As for Nicky Butt- I think hes more of a liability for us. Hes awful imo. His legs are gone and he specialises in making rash challenges and giving away penaltys. Offers very little to us and Barton is a big improvement. ChezGiven
The team could be ok. This thread said it all though. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=48562.
TRon
The team could be ok. This thread said it all though. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=48562.0 Pointing out the problem and providing the solution of spending millions is one thing. Actually spending the millions on the playing staff is the difficult bit. Unless of course it's just another debt for the club (as opposed to the owner) to pay out on like Smith's wages, Keegan's compensation, Guthrie, Xisco and so on. toptoon
The best team i think we could muster would be: Given Beye Taylor Colo Enrique Jonas Barton Gutherie Zoggy Owen Martins Harper Bassong (deserves to play really) Edgar Geremi Gonzales?? Xisco?? Carroll Not sure about xisco or gonzales yet. Butt's legs have gone. Duff runs around like a madman which is great if he would be more productive with it, but he isn't Viduka some people are expecting great things from if he ever isn't injured but they will be disappointed he is big and slow and is easily overpowered by most CB's. Give him space and time and an apportunity and he'll tuck it away nicely but we can't carry him. We need to provide for Owen now. Cacapa 5th choice for me CB, we may as well use an up and coming youngster. Replace Smith and shola too.

nobby_solano
maybe playing geremi as a sweeper/libero sort of position at the back picking out the passes if he hasn't got the legs? ---------------------given---------------------------- beye----------taylor---------coloccini----------enrique -----------------------geremi---------------------------- jonas --------------- barton ---------------------n'zogbia ---------------martins --------------owen -------------------

Thespence
It is fucking bananas to talk about the "mythical" Newcastle United team. St James Park is cursed & the training ground is a bigger danger zone than Baghdad. We even get mates rates with Dicky Steadmen.
