Funny how we've apparently had two of them play every game and yet still managed to have the best defensive unit in the league up until today though. Krul, Coloccini, Saylor, Tiote and Jonas deserve the credit for that. Simpson's actually played well in the last 3 or 4 games too, actually. No, they all deserve credit for it. No ill will towards Raylor. As has been mentioned, being bombarded as we were those mistakes could have happened to any one of our defenders - but he was certainly the most susceptible to them. I appreciate his goals and his bravery at Stoke but he looks all over the place when players run at him and has done throughout his time at NUFC. Today aside, he's been good, and Santon will have a fuckload to thank him for once he has established himself as a Newcastle player. Taylor's form has taken the load off him. How frequently have we seen young foreigners (who don't speak the language) come over and burn out immediately because all the pressure is on them? I wonder if in all honesty if he believes himself to be competent in that position. That's not me having a go because he has exceeded my expectations, but I don't believe that he truly perceives himself as a genuine left-back. That said he won't be dropped. Yeah, he's needed Jonas on a few occasions but he's been very good from an attacking perspective, and there's been games where he's been really good at the back. Spurs in-particular. Well i see what you're saying, but we'd be chucking on a youngster who's only just finding his feet... at a time where the team are getting pissed on and the opposition are dominating? Doesn't sound like a great idea in my opinion. Bringing him on against Spurs when we were in the ascendancy made more sense than bringing him on today would. Two more games against top quality wide men will at least show us what we've got as a defender rather than glossing over his game because he hits a sweet free kick.
