Syrette
Funnily enough, the likes of Morecambe can't get away with it... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_4891390,00.html Morecambe ran out of time on deadline day in their attempts to sign Southport midfielder Mark Duffy. The Shrimps had been hit by a transfer embargo banning them from all transfer activity after breaking Football League rules on the ratio of expenditure on wages within their income, but were told they could bring in one player during the window. Morecambe vice-chairman Graham Hodgson has gone on record as calling for application of the ruling across all three Football league divisions and not just League Two. Thwarted However, the Shrimps have confirmed their efforts to bring Duffy in were thwarted by the clock as despite an agreement between the player and club the necessary paperwork could not be completed in time. Sammy McIIroy's side are not involved in a relegation battle, lying comfortably in the League Two table but former Southport player of the year Duffy would have been a useful acquisition. Nobody
Didn't someone mention Denilson coming to us on loan if they got Arshavin or did I just dream that?

Syrette
Finally. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/russian-international-arshavin-joins-arsenal Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Russian international midfielder, Andrey Arshavin has joined the Gunners from Zenit St. Petersburg on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. Arshavin, 27, who played a key part in Zenit’s UEFA Cup winning campaign last season, was also a member of the Russian EURO 2008 squad in which he scored two goals from his three appearances, earning him a place in the ‘Team of the Tournament’. Arshavin won the Russian Premier League with Zenit in 2007, making a total of 232 appearances for his previous club, scoring 51 goals. During his time with Zenit, he was also part of the winning team that picked up the Russian Super Cup in 2008, the Russian Premier League Cup in 2003 and featured in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Manchester United in Monaco last August. With 41 international caps for Russia, Arshavin has scored a total of 15 goals for his country. His versatility has allowed him to play in a variety of positions; the 2006 Russian Footballer of the Year started his career as a right midfielder, but has since played as an attacking midfielder and more recently has filled the ‘second striker’s’ role
TRon
Didn't someone mention Denilson coming to us on loan if they got Arshavin or did I just dream that? I heard that too but it's obviously not happening. Ashley and Wise were still queuing for the pies at the canteen so couldn't get the email to the FA in time. Guest Sniffer
Well. we play a similar style to arsenal so I can see why wenger would condone such a move as it would be a seamless transition for the player. We probably aren't going to push them for that 4th spot even with Denilson so it's a safe move there.
JH
Supposedly now done. How is this fair? Er, deadline for everyone else. Rumour has it that they submitted all the paperwork to the FA before the deadline yesterday. Although, if that were the case, it wouldn't have taken them so long to announce it. Rumour has it that they submitted all the paperwork to the FA before the deadline yesterday. Although, if that were the case, it wouldn't have taken them so long to announce it. The condition yesterday was that a deal had to be all agreed and they had to prove the weather was the problem. He was already in fucking London. Segun Oluwaniyi
English (Premiership) clubs in general have been f***** with the deadline for several years now. I really don't understand why the rules are different.

Syrette
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/deadreflection/gun__1233679852_arshavin_sign3.jpg I'm actually reasonably happy he's joined them. He's a good player who I enjoy watching, and he's not joined any of our rivals so I'm not too worried about his arrival other than when we play them next. Segun Oluwaniyi
Much as the deal annoys me, Andrei deserves the chance to play in a major European league, so I'm glad he's getting it.

pinkeye
Apparently there was a backlog of registrations for the FA to ratify caused by the volume of transactions and the shortage of staff caused by FA staff not getting into work due to the weather. However, every other deal managed to be finalised except this one and it has taken until late this afternoon to finalise?? Smells a bit arsey to me!! Fatwax
He's a proper bizarre player. Nobody here - or anywhere else for that matter - had really heard of him until about a year and a half ago. Bearing in mind he's about 27 so it's not as if he's an emerging young talent. Just find it a bit weird how he's hardly been on the radar for years on years. SEMTEX
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/2325794/Newcastle-United-link-with-Andrei-Arshavin.html TBH If England had qualified for Euro 2008, Russia wouldn't have. Arshavin wouldn't have been thrust into the limelight. Sam Allardyce would've signed him, Arshavin would've scored 45 goals and we would've won the league. Sam would then have won manager of the year and secured his knighthood. NOW who couldn't give a fuck if England win... hhuuuuHH??
Belfast Boy
What happens if his goals fire Arsenal to 4th place, or relegate someone? Do we have Villa or the relegated team kicking off a whole new Tevez type claim?
