Llambias Q&A with Chronicle: OP updated with Thursday's articles

Yes they have a plan, they plan just to wing it and hope for the best.

It's worked in the past. ;)

he's already almost 2 years into the "grand plan", these "plans" which people said always succeeded. Or do I take it, he's starting again to see how the next 2 years goes too ?

Shame the grand plan of actually capitalising on the clubs fanbase, and strengthening the current first team and encouraging our best players to see a future at the club wasn't on the radar.

This is the new post Keegan plan.

What a load of s****.

That’s the strangest thing about Ashley, how can he from a sportswear retail background with a MD from a casino background (and a lawyer previously) think they can run a football club? Even though they know they have made huge mistakes, they still don’t get anyone in other than an inexperienced Dennis Wise – madness.

One positive is the academy recruitment policy, but if that’s the “5-year plan” don’t they realise that a lot less than 10% of any EPL clubs academy become any good. And what happens in the meantime?

eeer.........do you or do you not think that having a bigger fanbase than most other clubs gives us a distinct advantage over clubs like Bolton, West Brom, etc, even though people in the past have been envious of these sort of clubs for some reason and made out they have had better clubs than us ? Is it because you perceive struggling at the foot of the table and not wasting money on so called "trophy signings" which get you good league positions, to be better than trying to make a challenge to the top clubs ?

Sometimes I wonder if you're just a poor WUM fredbob.

However, Llambias has vowed that United will spend again in the summer and with several players set to be out of contract in the summer, the MD believes the wage bill will be freed up to allow Newcastle to sign players who fit into the new structure.  Basically sub standard pro's

He added: “There is £8m there and it will be spent in the summer.  Bet that's all that will be spent

“Mike isn’t afraid to spend money out of his own pocket.   Yeah on himself

Woo that 8m will be spent! Excuse me whilst I dance like a lunatic

Come the end of the summer transfer window I wonder if we'll put in a 8m last ditch bid for Michael Johnson again and fail   :kinnear:  < had to do it

Plenty of people have said that business is business, and it shouldn't be any different.

Which is, of course, utter bollocks, and always was utter bollocks.

Nice response. Like i say, I'm still not sure what difference it makes. Bigger crowds dont mean more success, sure we get more money fromshirt sales and ticket sales but thats all been accounted for in the account sheets - what next? How exactly would you capitlaise on it?

Serious question becaseu i genuinely dont know the dynamics.

Get back in your own thread NE5.

nowt to say then ?

Just joking man, I'm pretty bored, we all know spending money improves your chances of doing well, but it's not a given, you need the right manager, the right scouts and the right amount of money but you can do well without spending massive amount if you have the right manager e.g. Moyes and Everton.

I credit Llambias/Ashley/whoever for coming out and agreeing to finally do this interview.

Interesting read but i'm a little bit in-different to be fair. I'm happy that they've recognised the mistakes but 1, it's too late and 2, i'm not convinced they're capable of eradicating them. Whilst this four-part interview might loosen a few nots in the current enigmatic regime - the only question worth answering probably won't be asked. And even if it is, i wouldn't trust the answer.

Are you in this for the long-haul? Long-term plan, intentions to invest further, total devotion to NUFC. Or are you simply trying to put it in a position where it can be sold, thus jumping ship as soon as?

The 'consolidatory' (i'd call it dangerous...) appointment of Kinnear suggests the latter, for me.* There is only one thing that could possibly renew my faith in the upper echelons at the club, and that is the appointment of a new manager. Whilst i credit them for addressing the communication issues, the main thing for me will always be the manager situation. Therefore i'm still in limbo, regardless of this interview.

*I'm on about the three-and-half year contract there, btw.

on the other hand, if you are lucky enough to get a decent manager, and it IS a lottery, and don't back him, he'll be off. Like Moyes, unless Everton are taken over or it all suddenly goes tits up for him.

When you say "do well", how well do YOU want to do ?

When Keegan wanted to sell Andy Cole, SJH thought he was mad but backed him 'as i'm not a football man'.

He then however floated the club which ultimately caused Keegan to walk the first time, which was wrong of Keegan as he wasnt a businessman.

Goes both ways imo.

This thread is torture. So much twisting, so much assuming. End of the day they've made mistakes, and for once they've admitted to a couple of them. They've come out and communicated, and you'd hope that they'll keep this up in the future.

They can't win really. They get criticised for a lack of communication, so they come out and (rightly, in most cases) then get criticised for what they're communicating.

If they're going to stick around, then so be it. I'd rather that and the stability it brings than a regime that isn't committed. If they've got a long term plan, then it's a case of seeing how that works out, though there are no excuses for relegation.

They're making some steps in the right direction. But the most worrying and instrumental decision is whether they deliver on Kinnear's contract. Whether he keeps us up or not, giving that man a long term contract is 100% indefensible and will show that they've not got a clue. They don't have to even gauge the opinions of the fans, they don't even have to ask their own players and staff, they simply have to watch us play and look at our results. The man just isn't good enough and will never take us anywhere. If they want to commit to this club and get the fans on their side then they need to bring in a manager who can do the club justice, and they need to support that man in every way possible.

nothing wholly unexpected about it all, thought he came across reasonably well if a little condescending (although given the actions of some of our fans, it's to be expected).

spot on about "the NUSC" - perhaps the fog of war will start to lift from their eyes

If the NUSC weren't getting so much press coverage with their demands for communication from the club you can be sure this interview would never have happened.

Thats rubbish I'm afraid. The club had said before Xmas they would talk after the transfer window. NUSC had sweet FA to do with the interview or the future meeting. In fact I don't even know if anyone on NUSC is part of the meeting, they might be I don't know.

The club said just after christams they'd be speaking in the new year (Ashley's programme notes for the  Liverpool game).  That never happened though so Kinnear said it would be after the transfer window.  Then he said it would be the end of the season that they'd talk to supporters groups.  Now Llambias points out they're regularly talking to supporters groups.

Nobody at the club is reading from the same page.

Anyhow, why did they feel the need to break from their policy of silence, if not due to the pressure they were under?

It's been known by the people who go to the meetings it would be February for a long time. I don't care what JK said how much of what he says is true anyway

I think you're confusing meetings with fan representatives (stewarding, prices etc.) with broader communication (Club direction, transfer policy, who's running the club etc.).

Llambias hasn't even been involved with the former has he?

I think (assume) that's all Llambias is on about when he mentions the meetings with the fans. He hasn't been involved with those yet but he is in february from what I understand. Mort was included in the last lot though.

I'll not count my chickens that he will just yet, but I was on about the latter.

Would you Adam and Eve it?  I hear Llambias has only gone and cancelled his promised appearance at the February get together.

*SHOCK*

*HORROR*

Long live open dialogue and communication. mackems.gif

Completely agree with this, the decision over Kinnear is key at the end of the season.

Until then we should just stop whinging on and let them try to sort things out.
