Sifu
Wayne Rooney will be supported by the Montenegro defender he kicked if the Football Association decides to appeal against his three-match Euro 2012 ban. The FA is waiting for a written explanation of the suspension from Uefa before deciding whether to appeal. If it opts to contest the ban, it will have the support of Miodrag Dzudovic, who has written a letter to Uefa. According to the Daily Mail, Dzudovic claims Rooney's act was "an act of desperation rather than anger". Rooney was sent off for a kick at Dzudovic during England's 2-2 Euro 2012 qualifying draw with Montenegro in October. He was handed the ban that rules him out of England's opening three games of next summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine. But Dzudovic's letter, written by the Soviet Sport newspaper and signed by the player, backs Rooney. "Miodrag would like to underline that he didn't notice any signs of aggression in Rooney's actions," said the letter. "In his opinion the England national team player was driven by emotions and it was an act of desperation rather than anger. "The most important detail we ask to take notice of is Wayne Rooney's apology. "He realised his fault and felt guilty. Uefa pays so much attention to 'Fair Play' principles but Wayne's behaviour is the brightest example of fairness. "It is rare when a player leaves the field blaming no one but himself after being sent off. In our opinion, Wayne Rooney shouldn't be banned even for a single game. We hope to be heard in Uefa." HawK
Wouldnt' take Rooney in a million years. If we get through to the last 16/quarters it'll be cause he isn't playing. And what does that say to the people filling in? Hypocrisy Do you think Ben Arfa or Santon should feature v Wigan or Blackburn? How ridiculous. He kicked out, it was a red card and normally it would be extended to 3 games. He needs to accept his punishment and so do England. He's never really done much at international tournaments in anyway, he was good at Euro 2004 before he got injured but in the two tournaments we have been in since then he's not exactly set the world alight. Cronky
It's clearly violent conduct and a three match ban. The FA and Rooney should just accept it. Once he's served his punishment, it's a purely footballing decision. Rooney is a player of outstanding quality and we'd be daft not to have that option available if we get through the group stages. Sifu
The FA are appealing against Rooney's ban (even though the appeal will do f*** all). FA appeals against Wayne Rooney's England ban Page last updated at 20:01 GMT, Friday, 4 November 2011 The Football Association has confirmed it is appealing to Uefa against Wayne Rooney's three-match ban. The England striker, 26, received the punishment after being sent off for kicking Miodrag Dzudovic during the 2-2 draw with Montenegro last month. If the ban is upheld the Manchester United player will miss all of England's group matches at Euro 2012. The FA, which had until midnight on Friday to act, said it "can confirm an appeal has been made". They now have six days to put together a case to go before Uefa. English football's governing body had been waiting to be informed of the reasons for the ban from Uefa before deciding what course of action to take. It received those on Tuesday and has now decided to go ahead with an appeal, although that option is not without risk because Uefa could decide to challenge the FA's appeal. That could result in further punishment for the forward in the form of an extra match being added to his three-game suspension. BBC Sport has learned that the FA may decide to withdraw the appeal if the possibility of the ban being extended becomes a concern. Speaking after scoring in Manchester United's Champions League win over Otelul Galati at Old Trafford, Rooney admitted his kick at Dzudovic was "stupid", but claimed the punishment was "a bit harsh". "It will be a bonus if it is cut by one game," he added. That view has been endorsed in writing by Dzudovic, and it is thought that will provide the central component of the FA's appeal. Rooney has scored 28 goals in 73 appearances for England. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15598793.stm

Disco
Richards has been one of the stand out players this season. I find it totally bizarre that he doesn't get in the squad nevermind a game especially given that Walker/Johnson can't defend and Jones/Smalling are CBs and are limited going forward. Fenham Mag
Glen Johnson Would rather have Raylor. Saylor should be in instead of Jagielka like. Joe Cole is surely in with a shout, in decent form for Lille.
