Lucky win.

couldn't care less

Good for you.

Try to enjoy it a bit.

By me posting 'lucky win' you deduce i haven't enjoyed it? Sorry but you're clearly an idiot if you think that.

I tend to use the forum to express opinions on the football. We were outplayed for most of the second half and the Taylor handball / Smith sending off were pivotal moments that we should have been punished for. So i thought we were lucky.

No offence, but it just sounded like you're a right miserable t***.

that's basically what you said to me when I declared my pessemism after the Boro game in April........

Yeah but you are a miserable twat though in all fairness.

:aww:

To be honest, Ranger did well in the second half against Leicester but isn't ready at all. We were basically playing 4-6-0 at times, and as a result, failed to threaten whatsoever

Eh? He held the ball up perfectly almost everytime and the midfield were nowhere to be seen, if the likes of Nolan, Guthrie and Barton bothered he might look better.

Made loads of important defensive headers as well.

:nope:

I think the reason we played poorly was because of the starting line-up. Hughton should have kept it the same as the last game with Barton and Smith in the middle, and Guthrie out wide. Barton wasn't great today like, but he was the only one who actually picked out some decent creative passes, not all came off but they showed intent and some of them were real quality, i like Guthrie but he doesn't quite have the vision that Barton has. Point is keep Barton central, he will create a few opportunities a match and really stretch our opponents.

It's really annoying when we play 'hoof', it could well have been a tactic implemented to save energy for the midweek game but it was terrbile. We have a great ball playing midfield for this league, both Barton and Guthrie are good passers of the ball, and to an extent so is Smith yet we mindlessly punted to Ranger, who won a fair few but had zero support, it was ineffective and we could have been much more comfortable at the end.

Defensively we were solid, thought Colo played really well and as a unit we were disciplined, organised and very effective.

Agree completely. Colo had a decent game also, apart from the near disasterous finish. Makes no sense to bypass out midfield though with long balls, our midfield i sabout 70% of the reason we're better than most of these sides. So a waste today.

And yet its clearly you that sounds like one now. Twat that is.

There you go again, look!

Shit craic mate and full of fail.

Me expressing an opinion like everyone else that it was a lucky win has certainly got you exercised though. I would back off if i were you, one click of my fingers and Dave will delete you.

Ranger did alright, put himself about and helped out in a few key defensive situations. The difference today was that he had literally no support from midfield whatsoever, so he appeared wasteful. He can't be expected to be the target for long balls, bring it down and lay it off and then also get into the box in case a cross comes in, and the same would go for any striker.

Still looks a promising player to me, and we're lucky we have him because at the moment there's nobody else.

Aye but that was a magic performance though and it looked like we had finally got it together. Slightly different circumstances.

Also, now am on this tip for some bizarre reason (cos i said 'lucky win' ffs), i'll repeat the salient and long-term view that there is fuck all point in us winning this league  if we perform like that every week.

There's fuck all point anyway if Ashley's still here.

In terms of getting the ball down and playing it we were way off our best but we made up for it through effort and solid tactics.

Players such as Nolan, Barton and Guthrie offered very little creativity but all three put in the effort and we took our chance when it came.

Just as well because it was the only one we had.

Any posts about Ranger lacking attacking instinct are complete nonsense at this point.

Sorry but no they're not, at all - and to say so is purely succumbing to the ridiculous bumfest he receives on this board. I mean for isntance, on a couple of occassions in the second half... he was holding the defender off on the edge of the box - admittedly with his back to goal - but with a good yard of space between him and his encroacher. A turn and shot is hardly against the rules from these situations and i saw him score a similar sounding goal for England the other day. I can't understand it; it's almost as if he's compelled to pass in those situations in the first team, where he'd shoot in the reserves or England team. It's not bad like - and i'd largely put it down to confidence... and the midfield not being that great does make him look wasteful when he isn't as such, but a bit more striker's instinct definitely needs kicking into him. He's nowhere to be seen from set pieces, either.

Carroll's the more rounded striker at the moment and i'd definitely have him in the side ahead of him; especially in a 4-5-1.

That's just a joke tbh, Ranger's all round play is much better than Carroll's, he brings others into play more. They might do well together though.

Hence the word chance. If we keep getting clean sheets then one may be all we need.

I was majorly discouraged with Hughton's second half tactics. When Lovenkrands came on I assumed it was to go up along side Ranger and give him some support but fuck knows where Lovenkrands was actually playing.

He's probably been told to hold the ball up and look for a midfielder coming on, a young lad who is still finding his feet and trying to impress won't want to upset anyone so he just stuck to job and did as he was told. Thought he put in a great shift tbh, we've struck gold there, he could have come in and been absolute shite and we'd have been fucked, but he's come in and done a job, nothing more nothing less, under the circumstances that is brilliant for us and a young guy who was nowhere a year ago.

Indeed, but unfortunately Carroll is out and Ranger is left to play upfront on his own. Give the lad a chance in a striking pair and I think he would be hugely different. Or we could write him off before he has really started.

Aye i think they might. Still don't agree that Ranger's the better all-round player though. The fact that Carroll actually poses some form of goal threat (even if it's just in the air, which would be an exaggeration anyway) - is why i've just said that he's the better all-round striker.

Comparing him infavourably to Carroll doesn't do your argument many favours imo. One of Carroll's biggest flaws at first team level is his lack of willingness to have a shot. Inevitably looks to check inside or pass even when he's clean through.

Aye i totally agree like. We're fortunate to have him as third/fourth choice. As soon as Carroll's fit though (i actually thought he was fit for this one ??? ), he'd go back in for me.
