Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup says he sees no problem with teams paying rival sides to win games.

The Dane stressed he was completely against "match fixing", but believes the term needs to be "better defined".

wat

Paid to win, not to lose, like when a team has nowt to play for at the end of the season, now they do.

Its a bizarre statement to make though, should really have kept it to himself.

What utter nonsence, when first read thought he meant teams throwing games to ruin rivals league position which is also pretty stupid but least its not rich clubs paying out smaller clubs to lose or something

Oh wait i see...silly idea wouldn't work bleh

Well yes, but surely if this becomes the norm teams that haven't been paid will start not bothering?  I mean, if you always do your best anyway you'd miss out on potential multimillion pound pay-outs.  If Man U and Man City are neck and neck and you're Southampton playing Man U and you've seen other teams given £10m for a win by a team tryign to avoid relegation and Man City give you fuck all, surely you'd just say fuck em and play the kids?  It'd be pretty easy to start hinting you'll throw the game and blackmailing teams to giving you money "Ooh, I think we might have some injuries for this game, everyone's a bit tired, I think our star player might need resting"

Would turn the league into a protection racket.

With the massive squads and intra-divisional loaning of players by Chelseas/Man Citehs/Man Utds etc, we're halfway there sadly.

A moment of silence in appreciation of the terrible ordeal Randy Lerner put that horrible little PornDwarf and his side kick, Mr Tumnus through when West Ham visited Villa Park

Former Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan has hit out at football’s money culture claiming foreign owners like Aston Villa’s Randy Lerner are only in the country to make money.

The colourful Cockney with an estimated fortune of £500m and owner of 100 sex shops sold Birmingham City to Chinese businessman Carson Yeung, a deal which has since turned sour for the Midland team.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the influx of foreign owners in the Premier League he said:” Randy Lerner is here to make money. The Americans at Man United and Liverpool are here to make money. The Sunderland guy has a strategy to make money.”

'There are good examples of foreign ownership, “ he said. “Roman Abramovich and Sheik Mansour are in it for the fun. It's a hobby.”

Sullivan owns West Ham United with David Sullivan his friend and fellow former Birmingham City director David Gold.

His blast at Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner continued with him claiming that Aston Villa treated him and his fellow directors badly and subjected them to abuse from home fans because they were the former owners of Blues.

He stated: “Aston Villa, put the visiting directors in a room with the corporate home fans. We got loads of abuse because we were the former owners of Birmingham City.

“We were treated appallingly. I nearly did it to them in retaliation but I wasn't prepared to stoop to their level.”

“At West Ham we've got the best boardroom in the Premier League. We give the visiting directors the best table, right in the middle. It's the friendliest. It's lovely.”

I love the idea that Lerner was only there to make money, given how much he's ploughed into Villa over the last few years without, ultimately, much reward.

In MON we trust...
