Mike Williamson (now unemployed)

Yes but you have no soul

to be fair, if we could get a good price for Perch I wouldn't be against letting him go. Like Willo, he shouldn't be that hard to replace.

Perch is arguably more valuable to the squad than any fee he could command on the transfer market.

What difference would that make?

Exactly. I can't see us getting anybody as bother free as Perch. He's not the best footballer in the world but he's one of the few who gives a fuck and plays in a few positions (even if he is an atrocious right back). Case in point was Norwich away, we gave the ball away and they had about 4 on 2 and Perch sprinted back 60 yards to get a block in, whilst the rest of our fuckers jogged back. It's all well and good saying we won't progress with players like Perch in the squad but if he left there probably wouldn't be a replacement, and certainly not a good one. No point selling for sellings sake.

I see where you're going at, but let's assume for one second that there is actually some kind of causal relationship between our transfer income and spending. Say we got 3-4 million for Perch, and that money was reinvested in 2-3 promising youngsters like Bigi, would you really be opposed to it? As it is, Perch is often preferred in midfield to Anita and Bigi, and I don't think he should be, as I rate both these players higher. I appreciate he's a useful option to have on the bench due to his versatility and the fact he rarely lets us down, however, and would be perfectly happy to see him stay, but if he was to go (can see him wanting first team football too, at some point) and we were to reinvest the money, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

As for Perch, I'd prefer to see Anita, Marveaux or a fit Vuckic starting or coming on before such a limited player.  Perch fits well with our manager though and in a way is a reflection of him, conservative and boring.

Exactly. He's seeing more first team action than he should do, and not because better players are injured for once.

Curtis isnt ready to be 4th choice, thats still a year or two away. He couldnt break into the centre back places at a league two side.

I'd agree with that based on admittedly little I've seen of Good. If we sell Williamson I'd hope we'd get a replacement in, especially somebody with a bit of height. To go into the season with only Saylor as a more physical centre back capable of tussling with your typical English centre forward, considering Colo, Mbiwa (?) and Perch don't seem to be this type of centre back, would be a huge mistake.

What's your favourite Mike Williamson memory? I can't decide if mine's the time he needlessly pulled down Micheal Turner after being effortlessly outwitted in the box to give away a penalty against Sunderland, or watching him and Coloccini just abandon the idea of even attempting to challenge Davies and Elmander in the air after about 5 minutes in the 5-1 humping at the reebok, allowing them to run riot by chesting down 70 yard passes in acres of space and pass them off under no pressure at all. Great days.

For me, Williamson is an unspectacular CB of limited ability who can, from time to time, be a solid player to have at the back given the correct mindset/confidence. His weaknesses were badly exposed last season though and that did make him, more often than not, the weakest link of the team unfortunately. A 4th choice CB at best at a club like this really.

Having said all that, all the best to him if he does move on, he never kicked up a fuss in his time here and has always remained professional (especially after that "other guy" shite from Pardew). He genuinely had a fair few solid games too, just a shame that he seemed to have a lot more bad games than good in the PL. Thanks for the Championship, 2010/11 and a bit of 2011/12.

Appears to be a model pro. Had a lot of stick the last couple of seasons but never shirked the shirt, deserves respect for still going out there week after week and trying his very best despite his limited ability letting him down.

Best of luck to him if he goes.
