Apologies if this has been covered already in the thread but what's the consensus on the best Toon podcast? I've got a long drive coming up and I need to lock n load the playlist.

I want a podcast that's just 3/4 guys shooting the shit about the footy like a bunch of pals down the pub, a bit of tactical insight wouldn't hurt as long as they don't go full spreadsheet shagger/pie chart nonce.

Of course, the patter has to be great, no pishy middle class dad banter like Taylor Payne and George Caulkin

On that note, don't recommend me Pod on the Tyne, I just can't do it lads, I just can't.

Ideally they release episodes fairly regularly, 2-3 times a week.

Thanks in advance.

They're all average to shit, for varying reasons.

POTT, All With Smiling Faces, TF, The Chronicle one....  I'm yet to find one that is worth listening to.

I listed to True Faith now and then.  But really depends who they have on and what the result was or what sort of run we are on.  They're more reactive than this place.

All with smiling faces is the best imo.

It's the best of a bad bunch.  Said it on here before, most of them seem like top blokes.  But it is just 4 blokes talking through games like they're down the pub.  There's not a lot of insight and they get a lot wrong when referencing stats, records, matches etc.  I don't feel like I gain anything from listening.

I think it is Mark on there that will always argue like fuck with Dekka for about 20 minutes over some trivial point  which then means they go off track and the pod goes on for about an hour and a half.

Fair point, I guess it's audio NO to an extent.

AWSF is definitely the best but it's held together by Dekka, Besty and Mark is sometimesa maybe good, etc. Outside of that the rest of Gallowgate Shots is bad and getting worse imo. Same knee jerk, fickle, zero attempt at insight, very little substance stuff you see everywhere else.

Often thought we should have an N-O podcast that has different posters on week to week, but the quickness to which I'd probably call someone in the comments a cunt would make it pretty short lived like.

Just host it instead.

To me all NUFC fan led stuff is appalling as it’s little different to what you get on here, with your mates, down the pub, etc. You’re too involved and have too strong opinions yourself to be an objective observer and they offer nowt you couldn’t fathom yourself if you were inclined.

The Caulkin, Waugh, Payne one at least has an ear and eye behind the curtain at the club but even then we’ve discussed to death the negatives with that one.

I guess it depends what you want but that’s a bit harsh to be fair 😂.  I like the fact the set up is like 4 blokes talking about football down the pub. They’re not ex pros, they don’t come across with a superiority complex but they do make some insightful comments and it’s a good listen for me anyway. It’s also got some good humour but not the awful forced humour of POTT. I actually like listening to what Chris Waugh says sometimes on POTT, Caulkin drones on too much with his emotional language for me.

Dipped back into this recently and was surprised to see they've gone independent. Can't put my finger on why but it seemed to be a better listen; might just have been because I hadn't done so for ages.

I think what makes theirs a less offensive listen is the forced veil of professionalism which keeps them more objective and balanced, and never hyper critical. As a happy clapper I appreciate that. That's opposed to the reactionary stuff of TF etc, where they have no choice but to be really reactive, over-analyse and make conclusions based on the thing that just happened, because that's the only way to shit-out a pod a day.

The True Faith lot have always been unbearable but going full engagement bait stupidity has taken them up a notch

I think I listened to one once and immediately decided it wasn’t for me. Ironically, displaying exactly the type of reactionary judgement that made me dislike their content.

As a fan site "The Toon Review" and its fairness and logic, is the site I am totally at home with. They do not insist that we agree with any of the four of them, but I can always understand where they (Paul, Statto, Lady Sam and Billy) are each coming from on all issues. They are like friends and family to me, with LOTS of humour!

And they associate themselves with absolutely dire journalists.

Talks about the cardiff semi final debacle as well

My memory isnt clear but I'm sure I remember seeing him clapping the man u fans but not our end as well..

I remember the rage towards him for a while afterwards but I don't mind him too much tbh

I listened to it - on the Man Utd SF, he’s painted a rosier picture for himself and called out Alan Oliver’s bullshit at the moment but he’s really wearing rose-tinted specs in looking back.  He absolutely didn’t clap our end but was greeting the entire Man Utd bench when he went off at the end.  Talks well of us and it’s been two decades so I can just about find closure at this point :)
