LoveItIfWeBeatU
Could well be a bit of a makeshift defence on Wednesday. http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-utd/2010/03/14/united-facing-defensive-crisis-after-tough-battle-79310-26027621/ United facing defensive crisis after tough battle Mar 14 2010 by Neil Farrington, Sunday Sun MANAGER Chris Hughton is facing a defensive crisis going into two games in four days as Newcastle count the cost of their battling derby draw at Middlesbrough. Having gone into the game rocked by the news that Mike Williamson will be out for up to a month after breaking a bone in his hand while exercising at home, United lost fellow centre-half Fabricio Coloccini to a dead leg early in the second half. With Steven Taylor nursing a long-term knee injury and Jose Enrique only edging his way back from injury, Newcastle have just four fully-fit senior defenders. And while Hughton has refused to rule out Coloccini for Wednesday’s home game against Scunthorpe, the Argentinian is unlikely to line up against the Iron. But the spirit shown by his players amid a battering at Boro to emerge with a point left the United manager more than satisfied. “The fact we were away from home, had gone 2-1 down and had defensive problems means we have to be delighted to have pulled it back to 2-2,” said Hughton. “Middlesbrough had very good periods during the first half and the second half, but we came on strong late in the game and might have nicked it.” On his defensive problems, Hughton added: “Mike Williamson has a broken bone in his hand and will be out for three to four weeks. “It was an unusual accident. He was doing some fitness work at home, slipped and caught what is the hand’s equivalent of the metatarsal bone on the foot. “Fabricio had a dead leg. They get more painful as times goes on. He’s a tough lad, so for him to have to come off when he did shows how much pain he must have been in. “With dead legs, you just have to wait and see, so we’ll have to assess him for Wednesday.” Having seen his side’s lead at the top of the Championship cut to four points by West Brom, but third-placed Nottingham Forest fall nine points off the pace, Hughton could afford to pay tribute to Boro. “They’re a good side, and we caught them on the ascendancy. But we have a real desire not to lose games. “And Forest losing is a bonus.” Andy Carroll was United’s late saviour, with his 12th goal of the season earning a share of the spoils after Peter Lovenkrands had struck his 11th in 10 games early on. “Andy is in great goalscoring form,” said Hughton. “This wasn’t one of his better days but when you’re in that type of form, those are the goals you score.”

Pilko
They are missing a CB too aren't they? Cliff Byrne, meant to be their best defender. Suspended as he was sent off this weekend. (Shearergol feel free to amend this)

Considering they have the worst defensive record in the league, then that's probably not a bad shout whatever team we put out

Ketsbaia
If there had to be a game without Staylor, Colo and Williamson, this is a good game to do it. We should comfortably win, but yet again we'll not keep a clean sheet. 3-
David28
Don't think we should worry too much. This is a home game. Hall and Kadar should be good enough as CB pairing with Enrique coming back is also a bonus.
