Guest
I'm sure there's a lot of interest, but not many clubs would offer £9m up front for him.
Benwell Lad
I'm sure there's a lot of interest, but not many clubs would offer £9m up front for him. Yup. Interest and serious interest are different things. He will have been very closely watched by all top clubs as the hype built up last season. If he ends up at Sunderland you can safely say none of them really fancied him.
BleedsBlackAndWhite
I hereby resolve to refrain from reading any more posts on that Sunderland board. I swear, every f***ing time I start reading that board I have points shaved off my IQ and move closer to premature dementia.
bowlingcrofty
If he's any good for them he'll be off in a year anyway.
Fenham Mag
Personally i think Whickham will be awesome but £13 million is a massive gamble. He absolutely bullied Colocinni when we played Ipswich at home in the Championship season.
Guest
I think the real top clubs would sooner pay £16m to £20m or whatever once he's proven he can do it at this level than pay £9m when they have no idea.

Geordie Ahmed
Fair play to the Mackems for spending that kind of money Now lets hope he is the next Jon Stead

Yep, that's called the Sir Alex Ferguson strategy.
Lush Vlad
Personally i think Whickham will be awesome but £13 million is a massive gamble. He absolutely bullied Colocinni when we played Ipswich at home in the Championship season. Our players had the cigars out and the flip flops on that day. Don't remember him being 'absolutely bullied' either. Although Wickham took his goal well mind.

SUPERTOON
Wickham and Gardner having medicals tomorrow. Very suprised other clubs are not in for Wickham unless Sunderland have paid way over price. As for Gardner, decent player, not much about him, decent engine and shot.

taxfree
Dislike this. I think he'll do great for them, unfortunately. Hopefully he'll flop big time.

geordie jamie
So bents replacement is wickham i wonder who carrolls will be?
Mr. Snrub
Wickham is still very raw and is a few years off being ready to lead the line in the Premier League. I'd rather we sign someone more experienced who will come in and immediately score goals.
Dr. Nguyen Van Falk
Wickham would of been nice for a club who has 2/3 proven goal scorers and doesn't have to rely on him to come good, which we would...
