You know, a few years ago they had their only chance in a lifetime to overtake us.

If Niall Quinn hadn't got so many decisions wrong regarding managerial appointments and letting them spend shitloads on crap players, they might just have pushed on. Thanks Quinny.

Agent Quinn, that'd kill them

O'Neill's gonna drive them mad with his policy of waiting until the last day to to business, then signing someone uninspiring from a mid table outfit.

Reports of friction between Stephane Sessegnon and new manager Martin O'Neill which could lead to him being sold this window #safc

Would be funny if it's true considering that he is pretty much Sunderland's only creative outlet.

If they lose him, they'll have an unspectacular second half of this season. Lower mid-table methinks.

Seriously though how shit must it be to support that lot?

We get a tight owner who gets us relegated which turns out to be the perfect way to get rid of our heartless, gutless, expensive wanker players.

Sells our local hero, still spends bugger all, we pick up some lad with a dodgy knee on a free and he goes on to be one of the most prolific strikers in the league.

We pick up a bunch of players on the cheap because they are bit part (Tiote), have a clause (Cabaye, Williamson), have fallen away a bit (Santon) and they all perform brilliantly leading to us crawling back up the league and looking a real challenge to a top 7 spot within 2 years of said relegation.

Then after days/weeks of strong speculation linking them to one of the most goal hungry forwards in Europe, only literally minutes after discussions about how he is better than Ba and how good it will be in their side breaking news comes through he is flying in for a Newcastle medical then later that night he signs for us.

Oh to be a mackem :yao:

I doubt he fits into MON's plans anyway, he's a bit of a long ball man more than anything, can't criticise that too much as Pardew is quite similar.

Picking out his most expensive transfers at Aston Villa, he seems to but british but spunk silly transfer fees for them, wouldnt be suprised to see some of these at Sunderland like, plus maybe like Zamora/Heskey.

James Milner (Newcastle, £12m)

Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough £10m)

Curtis Davies (WBA, £10m)

Ashley Young (Watford, £9.65m)

Stephen Warnock (£6m)

Steve Sidwell (Chelsea £5.5m)

James Collins (West Ham United, £5m)

Luke Young (Middlesbrough, £5m)

Apologies if its already been done, but....

Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse has admitted that he is "flattered" to be linked with a move to Martin O'Neill's resurgent Sunderland side.

Cisse on Joining Newcastle Utd: "This is a transfer that is very exciting for me and I am very much looking forward to playing for this club - it is the club that I wanted to join."

Milner - Sold for £24m

Downing - Sold for £18m

Young - Sold for between £15m rising to £20m

3 of the most expensive 4 were sold on at very large profits, which makes the £95.9m above a little redundant.

True, think they got lucky with Man City throwing money around for Milner so they got double the price for him, the two main losses at Villa were

Sold Curtis Davies for £3.5m (loss of £6.5m)

Released Reo Coker on a free (loss of £8.5m)

He did spend £82m in 4 years including sales.

I think most people knew already of O'Neill's questionable dealings in his time at Villa but you can see why brummie and the likes of him were fed up with MO'N when you see a list like that. Garbage.

Was he given total control of transfers at Villa? dunno if he has same arrangement at Sunderland, surely Ellis etc would be aware of that aspect and might be cautious lol. Still think he'll do ok there, but think he's a manager with an upper limit of what he will achieve with his disdain for tactics he'll end up one dimensional. He's got them playing well though already and suspect they'll have an alright season, and next year may be pretty good. Can't rely on them blowing all the money.

To be fair O'Neill is a fantastic motivator and he knows how to set a team up to be difficult to beat - Sunderland are already approaching Villa levels of jammyness. I wouldn't trust the fucker with my chequebook mind.

He was given total control at Villa and threw a huff when Randy wouldn't give him all the Milner money to spend. As a football fan I hope Short is in charge of the purse strings, as a Newcastle fan I want to see one last big money move for Heskey.
