be a very solid player for us, if you consider cabaye injured and tiote in the african cup of nations. Id hate to think we play guthrie and smith

Gosling? Even Abeid or Vuckic too considering its not until Jan/Feb.

From NUFC.com

Still trying for two

Official confirmation was forthcoming from Newcastle on Tuesday evening that the permanent transfers of both Davide Santon and Rob Elliot had been concluded.

And from what we can gather, attempts continue to secure a further two signings on Wednesday - we're uncertain of who the targets are and whether loan or permanent deals are in the offing.

The transfer window closes on Wednesday @ 11pm.

Realistically speaking, if we were to agree a fee for a player on the continent how soon would this need to be in order to get them over here, medical done etc?

Don't forget that many deals (including Carroll and I believe Torres last year) are done 'subject to a medical' - i.e. the paperwork etc is done but the club retain the right to pull out of the deal if the medical is failed.

I assume we could private jet them over and it would be France, Holland or Germany so not that long a flight.

Basically, not sure but didn't Spurs get VDV over right at the last minute (or a few minutes after)?

Interesting. Would love to know the timescale of the van der Vaart transfer from last year? And even if we're running out of time,  the Premier League will just let us put it through anyway.

Don't forget. Uncle Mike has a helicopter.

May as well replace it with a zip-wire down to the North West.

"Just grab tight on the handles, Cheik, Alex will be waiting."

"Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..."

The thing is, we're not the only club that is leaving signings to the last day. Why do all the clubs do this? Do they like the thrill of it? It makes no sense to wait right until the very end before scrambling players over the line.
