henke
Shay Given, zero PL appearances this year. Bet he's fucking chuffed with himself, still all that cash should cushion the blow.
Guest Chubby Jason
He's been played out of position to be fair to him. He needs to be put back upfront when he comes back; just imagine if we brought back Owen in the summer to see these two upfront together AGAIN!! :fwap: :fwap: :fwap: :fwap: :fwap: :fwap: :fwap: :fwap:
Guest JS
Michael Owen, did bring in loads of commercial money, and I dont need to prove it. You couldnt buy a footy computer game at time without him wearing a toon shirt on it. MO was all over the place being the poster boy all over the place, too. He was Englands centre forward! Him being photographed in a NUFC shirt brought exposure to the clubs sponsors and thus brings commercial value to the club too. Where were you at the time?... thumbing through annual reports oblivious to the world? Do you not recognise that certain players (including MO) have commercial value? or do you really need proof??? MO was signed buy NUFC with a clear understanding that he had commercial value, but you disagree and need proof!!! oh dear. You're the one making claims which don't add up. I agree that he had a commercial value, I just don't think that it was as high as you seem to think. I didn't make a claim tying Michael Owen to the Northern Rock deal which was signed a year before he arrived at the club, us using that money isn’t a positive as far as I’m concerned and had nothing to do with the sponsor. Him being on the front of Pro Evo with the Newcastle kit on (for example) must have brought something in, surely they would have had to pay the club for the rights to it, etc? Mind you, cant remember there being anything else other then that
Guest Rob 1988
Alan Smith training again at Newcastle United ALAN SMITH is finally back up and running for Newcastle United. But while there is a slight possibility the midfielder could make a cameo appearance in the remaining three Premier League games this season, he is unlikely to be risked. Smith, 30, shattered his ankle in the Tyne-Wear derby back in January after a late tackle by Kieran Richardson. The United vice-captain was forced on to crutches and his injured ankle required an aircast protective boot. However, the sight of influential former Leeds and Manchester United player running again last week at the club’s Benton base was a welcome sight for boss Alan Pardew. As one of United’s senior players, Smith played a huge part on and off the field in Newcastle’s promotion last season and, while he is not guaranteed a first-team slot due to the form of Cheick Tiote and Kevin Nolan, he remains a key squad member in the eyes of Pardew and his backroom team. United’s assistant manager John Carver told the Chronicle: “During his injury Alan has played a big part off the field for us. “Just because a player is injured it doesn’t mean they don’t have a part to play, and Alan has been an excellent example of that.” Smith’s agent Alex Black said: “Alan has been running with Simon Tweddle at the training ground. He’s doing well. “There’s a slight chance he could play again this season but it could well be next season when we see him back.” Black also wanted to make it clear to supporters that Smith has not followed in the footsteps of many Premier League stars and joined Twitter, despite numerous bogus accounts. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/05/03/alan-smith-training-again-at-newcastle-united-72703-28625497/

LoveItIfWeBeatU
Look on the bright side, a fit Alan Smith will be easier to sell than an injured Alan Smith. I fully accept selling him would be a monumental achievement. Of the senior squad the following player's contracts all end in June 2012: - Enrique, Barton, Guthrie, Lovenkrands, Ameobi and Smith. I can't imagine Mike Ashley being happy to let any of them leave on a free if he has a chance to sell and the wanted players won't sign a new contract. The power is with the players though. Conjo
Should seriously look into giving him away to a newly promoted or top championship team in the summer on the basis that we don't have to pay any of his remaining wages. Surely there has to be someone stupid enough to take that offer?
