"I cannot imagine what is getting into these football teams that they would suddenly begin full-scale international competition just when we are beginning our 2010 concert series," said Dr. Stefan Coetzee, the Philharmonic's program and concert director. "It is disrespectful to the performers, it is disrespectful to the music itself, and by extension, it is disrespectful to the great nation of South Africa." GM Posted June 19, 2010 Share Posted June 19, 2010 One of the few highlights for me from yesterday's World Cup football, was watching the USA-Slovenia match in a pub just off Sauchiehall Street, and this loud, obnoxious Yank fan was totally screaming his head off at the big screen, generally getting on everyone's tits (I know, it's so unlike an American to do that!) but then a wee gadgie chipped into a moment's silence in the room with "Haud yer wheesht man!!! On the other hand, I've had to listen to the same stupid fucking comments on England's performances from half the town, so sod 'em. You should have seen the face on the Frenchman that sells cheese at the local market on Friday. He must have had every bastard and his dog making "witty" observations to him all day long.
