ponsaelius
Vukic hasn't even shown enough to convince me that he'll get a professional contract, never mind getting into the first team. That's cuz he's not Korean.

Neil
is gosling even guaranteed to walk into the starting 11 though? Absolutely not. There's one spot on our midfield that is (or should be) up for grabs, and that is LW, and I can't see Gosling taking it. He is still only 20 years old though, and we haven't signed him for this season. which two players are certs for centre mid ? Nolan and Tiote. nolan a cert . i'd like to think not. At the moment? He's a dead cert.

madras
Rodwell is a lot better, from what i've seen. There's no comparison, really. different sorts of player though from what i've seen. rodwell is more expansive, gosling is more like a jenas with a bit more heart. Different players, aye. But Gosling is nowhere near Rodwell on the ladder to decent Premiership quality (a ladder I expect Rodwell to climb a fair bit in the next few years). i'd actually like to have both together as they could well compliment each others styles. The issue is: Gosling doesn't have a style, Gosling doesn't have a position. He's not an awful player by any means but I see little in him to suggest he'll become a good Premiership player, or be able to perform an influential role in a decent Premiership side. He'll 'work hard', and do his best to get into good positions - which I'd like to think are basic necessities for basically any player. he'll be a centre mid. i know he played wide at everton but that was more through circumstance. everyone in the game sees him through the middle. he's a jenas or a lesser carrick. wormy
Wow. I've avoided the football forum today, and just come in to see this! I know it's a relative risk with the injury etc, but you can't help but get swept away by the excitement! We could be seeing Barfa past this season! madras
He's a lesser Jenas, I'm afraid. it's hard to tell at that age. if gosling keeps improving he'll do ok. jenas stopped improving when he should have been kicking on.
Decky
When he is fit I would imagine our midfield and forwards to be: Barton Nolan Tiote Jonas Ben Arfa Carroll

I imagine him reading the first bit and getting rather peeved. A Jenas type midfielder wouldn't be a terrible thing. I doubt Neil's judgements anyway, he never goes to the games..... Cajun
Niel is well bitter we stole their best player since Rooney on a free. Gosling reminded me of a young Zideane, he just needed to play more central. Seriously though, he sounds a lot like Milner which if I didn't already have morning glory I would have now anyway. Looking forward to Gosling, I think he will be back up to Nolan which is important as when he is out we have no-one central who want to get into shooting positions. He will also add a lot of energy. Basically Gosling > Smith/Guthrie.
Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
Vuckic looks stronger and can find a pass better in midfield, plus he has the pace and strength to make a difference as a forward. Vuckic ffs And with Gosling, he's a much better option as backup than Smith and Guthrie, who are poor players. Gosling is going to improve as well. Stu
As if Ashley ever planned on buying him anyway. Would have forced Hughton to stop playing him after 24 games and we'd have shipped him back. Agreed. Ashley would have had no intention of signing him. What evidence is there to support this view? That he's a stupid cunt who couldn't make a decent decision if it was handed to him on a silver plate? No chance he'll sign permanently for us, thanks for the couple of games Hatem. As if Ashley ever planned on buying him anyway. Would have forced Hughton to stop playing him after 24 games and we'd have shipped him back. Calm down everybody. He still might stay. Give it up. No new manager will want him. Any manager we get in will be of the turbo s*** kind. It's not about the manager wanting him, it's about Hatem wanting to stay. Hatem said one of the main reasons he came here was because of Hughton. Our only chance of getting him gone up in smoke now. Cheers Hatem, best of luck. Can't see us getting this kid now. Forget HBA, he's gone. Thanks for the Everton goal and best of luck. http://oneyearbible.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/chickens_hatch.jpg
LoveItIfWeBeatU
http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2010/12/30/magpies-poised-to-sign-up-hatem-ben-arfa-61634-27906544/ Magpies poised to sign up Hatem Ben Arfa Dec 30 2010 by Luke Edwards, The Journal ALAN Pardew is set to make Hatem Ben Arfa his first signing as Newcastle United manager next week after the Frenchman agreed to make his loan move permanent in the January transfer window. Ben Arfa was initially expected to make a decision on his future at the end of the season, but Newcastle have decided they saw enough of him in his four appearances before breaking his leg against Manchester City in October to offer him a long term contract. Pardew has never had a good look at Ben Arfa in training and has never seen him play live in a Premier League match, but the United boss was already aware of his ability when he arrived at St James’s Park earlier this month. The signing of the 23-year-old will mean Pardew has been successful in all three of his top priorities this month, firstly in persuading the board to let him spend some money in January, secondly in persuading Steven Taylor to sign a new contract and now the permanent signing of Ben Arfa. The Journal understands Newcastle will land Ben Arfa for the fee - thought to be in the region of £3.5m - they agreed to pay Marseille in the summer if he played 25 games this season. Given the impressive start he made in black and white stripes, that would appear to be an excellent piece of business. Like the recent deals offered to Taylor, Andy Carroll, Mike Williamson and Nile Ranger, as well as Pardew, Ben Arfa is expected to sign a five-and-a-half year contract when the paperwork is finalised in the New Year. Liverpool have also expressed some interest in the playmaker, but Newcastle remain in the driving seat as he thoroughly enjoyed his time on Tyneside before his injury nightmare and remembers how patient they were in their negotiations with Marseille in the summer. Encouragingly, Ben Arfa (pictured right) has also made an excellent recovery from the double fracture he picked up as a result of an ugly lunge by City’s Nigel De Jong in the game at Eastlands and could be playing again in February. The youngster has been able to begin light training at a specialist rehabilitation centre in France and is due back at Newcastle’s training ground next month even though it was initially thought he would not feature again until April at the earliest. £3.5m would be a bargain! I hope he's learning English during his recovery.
