Guest BooBoo
We won't be asking for any sort of makeweight or swap deal, it would be strictly cash upfront IMO.

Of course it would, then quickly away into the vault with the Carroll money for a rainy day
Pilko
We won't be asking for any sort of makeweight or swap deal, it would be strictly cash upfront IMO. we held all the cards in the Carroll deal, we absolutely could have knocked a million or two (or even more?) off the price if it meant we got Sturridge, N'gog, Pacheco, Borini or whoever on loan. But we didn't, we went for the cash, and we'd do the same again.
BONTEMPI
Well if he does go it will confirm it was the Board who was at fault for Carroll going, and we will be a selling club for the remainder of Ashley's tenure.
Ginola
Jesus, we put on twitter that we haven't received any enquiries about him and now he's as good as gone. Fucking hell lads.
Guest BooBoo
Jesus, we put on twitter that we haven't received any enquiries about him and now he's as good as gone. Fucking hell lads. Pardew's on record though as saying we'd have a problem if a bid came in. Chelsea need a replacement for Essien and have money to burn. It's understandable that people are fretting, considering what happened in January.
Ginola
And Tiote is on record saying he wouldn't like to move to London...
clintdempsey
Not to mention Pardew's quotes are from February. Maybe he's been given assurances that Tiote won't be sold if he'll sacrifice a bit of funds to balance the books?
Geordie Ahmed
from http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7035493,00.html Blues won't seek Essien cover Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo claims the club will not be looking to bring in cover for Michael Essien. New Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas saw his plans for the new season take a huge blow last week when Essien suffered knee ligament damage, ruling him out for six months. There are serious doubts about Essien's long-term fitness given that it is the third such injury of his career, and the London club have been linked with a number of replacements for the midfield powerhouse - most notably Scott Parker and Cheik Tiote. It is understood that the clubs of those players, West Ham and Newcastle, have not received any official approach from Chelsea, but Tiote impressed last season with his combative displays and would be an obvious like-for-like replacement for Essien. Part of Emenalo's new brief is to look after scouting and he would play a role in finding a replacement for Essien if asked to do so by Villas-Boas. The Nigerian insists that the Blues will not be affected by Essien's injury, though, and has hinted that the club will not need to bring in a replacement. "The squad is littered with world-class players and the idea of replacing someone or not replacing someone sounds a little bit ludicrous," he told Sky Sports News. "We have enough in the tank to get the job done. He (Essien) will be missed. Everyone knows he is an important part of Chelsea and a magnificent player in the side for the club and he still will be when he recovers but I don't think there is any panic or desperation to replace him. "We will do just what a club of our ilk should do and find the right solution."

Fenham Mag
Can people please note that Tiote is not due to play against Darlo because of lack of fitness, even before Essien was injured.

Segun Oluwaniyi
Chelsea have gotten used to playing without Essien, tbh. They've gotten even more used to him being rather poor. The two other black midfielders will play more and Modric will fill the gap. Tiote will stay in Newcastle.

Guest dogbeak
so why is tiote so lacking in fitness compared to his colleagues? (answers grounded in wild conspiracy theories, and railing against things that haven't happened yet will be ignored).
The Blackbelts
Oh my god! Tiotes not in the team for darlo! Paaaaanic! He must be short on match fitness from running to London to talk to Chelsea before putting in a shift of turning the London eye while the motors being fixed.
