How can a player really not say no?  I think it's ridiculous that he would be forced to go, even if he personally didn't want to go.

He wouldn't be forced to go, he'd be prevented from playing for us.

Oh, and he did want to go.

current rumours are he 'did' want to go but then decided to stay due to our current predicament, all hands to the pump and all that.

We have the worst relationship with international FA's. Not surprised given the attitude of those at the top. Some fucking depth would help since we wouldn't be so desperate in all these situations, but obviously that's not an option.

Regardless, it's a stupid fucking rule anyway.

It's ridiculous, especially given the wages that football clubs pay players these days, that they have zero power. If we want to keep our player, we have every right to. Fuck international football tbh.

What about "retired from international football" then? Say if a player announced that publicly, and if he's called up to the squad, could the player refuse to join?

Even if they've 'retired' they can still be called up.  The retirement thing is more like a gentleman's agreement where the player asks not to be called up and the association won't call him up even though they retain the right to.

Mental

Oh, fuck, yea that's the one

So what's next? The club's allowed to keep the players if they pay some money to those FA?

its coming to a stage quickly where the clubs (european ones anyway) are starting to fight back significantly against international football and with FIFA and UEFA (through the mouth of its dictator Platini) saying the world cup should be in the middle of the season for the one in Qatar and the major clubs are not going to go along with that so easily.

Back on topic the one thing I really don't get is why the hell is the ACN on every 2 years (never mind the fact its on one year after the other this time) when the norm for the majority of major sporting tournaments is every 4 years.
