Graham Carr

I didn't mind Carr as a scout, he generally went for players who would improve us technically, but the idea that an old local guy would be in charge of signings above a world class manager like Rafa was always a joke. It worked fine when we had bin men and window fitters in the manager roles, but he had to go once we made a proper appointment.

It seems pointless talking about stuff like this given the situation but I’m not entirely against having a proper scouting networking and someone like Carr responsible for bringing in promising players assuming there can be a balance. We used to invest in young players to develop (albeit to sell on) and left shit managers in charge of them. Then we actually get a world class coach and give him next to nothing, it’s absolute madness.

If we’d had a good owner with Carr at the club 7 years ago then we could have been where Spurs are now. Paying the extra and what was needed to get the likes of Vertonghen, Lacazette, etc over the line. He seemed to have a march on a market 2-3 years before the rest of the league cottoned on and joined in.

I think McClarens roll in all this is often underplayed, the one Time in 12 years Ashley put his money in his pocket and signed players McClarens horrific tactics and attitude sent us down which was the final nail in the coffin for Ashley to spend.

Aye, PEA too, Kante, he scouted numerous players that other teams bought that we should have got and would have got if our owner wasn't a cunt. He didn't get it right all the time but no scout does. And didn't rafa say when you work down our transfer list you quickly get to players with one leg, or something of that nature. Carr was alright man.

I've been saying this since he was here. Seems like every window he was forking over a spreadsheet full of players and the first thing Ashley did was to scroll straight to the bottom of the list and ignore anyone that would break our transfer record.

With Guerreiro going to PSG, could we get a Graham Carr recommendation XI of players we could have realistically signed but for Mike Ashley’s tightness? Will throw in a couple of his actual signings...what a team.

GK - Zoet

CB - Zouma

CB - Vertonghen

CB - Alderweireld

RWB - Debuchy

LWB - Guerreiro

CM - Matuidi

CM - Cabaye

RW - Sissoko

LW - Lacazette

CF - Aubameyang

It doesn't seem pointless, it is pointless, stop talking about it.  Stop giving a shit.
