Daglish is very blatantly a top manager. Knew they'd turn things around the second he was announced.

Out of curiosity, explain his shocking period as NUFC and Celtic manager then?

I like the idea of KK as Dalglish's nemesis.

You sure?

Worrying that Barton's delivery has dipped alarmingly for some time and that no one else in the team can take those set pieces. Hopefully we'll get another set piece specialist to increase our options.

Don't even bring Ryan Taylor into the picture please.

We looked a bit inhibited for the first 20 minutes, but after that, I didn't think there was much wrong with the effort. They just had a bit more quality.

We just have to accept that, at the moment, a lot of the players aren't quite good enough to compete against a top-five side.

They've not been top five all season until four hours ago and they took a comprehensive arse-kicking up here in December from an NUFC with Sol Campbell playing at centre half.

They have more quality because they took the bull by the horns in January, used the window sensibly and will now play in Europe next season in all likelihood. From a level playing field, we have collapsed. Perpetuating the idea that "we can't compete" is nauseatingly pathetic. There was no reason that we couldn't do what they have.

Spend £20M on a striker, your living on another planet to think we could of done that in January before the Carroll transfer.

We already had the top class striker we needed, you halfwit.

I bet £5 on 0-1 win with Nolan scoring. Don't think Nolan even touched the ball.

He put a ball through to Barton who put his shot wide and also had a shot over near the end.

Does that make you feel any better?

I got really excited because I had a dream about the game. Thought it would come true.

I was already spending the £635 winnings.  :weep:

Celtic - I can't. Didn't follow Scottish football at all at that time.

NUFC - got us into the Champions League, an FA cup final and had one poor season which was badly affected by an injury to our best player. Hardly shocking.

Ronaldo - he did dismantle that side that finished 2nd in 96/97 when there was no need to. It just need a bit of tinkering with, rather than pulling to bits.

it was already dismantling, hence why keegan skipped out when told he couldn't have oodles more to rebuild.

KK went because the club decided to become a PLC and the power would then lie with the suits in London. Hence why Ferdinand was sold ultimately.

If you knew your toon history, that's what happened back in 96/97 when the club floated itself as a PLC. It was those who took the offer from Spurs on Ferdinand. Do I need to spell it out a bit clearer?

Wouldn't say it was dismantling...

Who exactly are you referring to here? Which 'suits in London' for a start?

a very harsh match summary from .com

"A weak header fell to Maxi Rodriguez and his scuffed shot was going to be easily saved by Tim Krul until Simpson inexplicably stuck out his elbow to divert the ball past his 'keeper in front of the travelling fans.

Had the ball not gone in then it would almost certainly have been a penalty and a decent right back must surely be high on Pardew's shopping list as well as a Carroll replacement."

High on the shopping list??? I can think of at least 5 positions i would stregthen before i even thought of a right back!

I dunno, it'd be pretty high up on my priorities too, especially if Barton remains on the right - there's acres of space ahead of him that remain permanently unexploited because of his lack of attacking presence, and it's not as he's Paolo Maldini in the defensive stakes either to compensate. A good squad player to have for sure, but in terms of active contribution to the team going forward or defensively I don't think he has enough in either department to hold a first team slot.

Disagree like, think he just comes across as dry, which is a good thing. Really liked his interviews when he was here. Great manager too, I'll never really understand/get over why he didn't work out here.

Really enjoyed today. Carroll was a nice distraction.

He managed Celtic for a few games & won the League Cup not that shabby imo.

It won't last. They're running on adrenaline atm, the 'magic' will quickly dry up.

Wasn't a flop at Celtic either.  Was only caretaker manager cleaning up after John Barnes's mess.
