Other clubs' transfers

Worth pointing out that Ashley has severely reduced the club's commercial revenue while he's been here too which is astonishing given the increasing profile of the league.

When Shepherd left, our commercial revenue (sponsorship and merchandise) was £27m, Spurs (a club of similar stature imo, even if the manager thinks they're miles bigger) had a commercial revenue of £20m. In the last set of accounts, Spurs posted revenue in that sector of £41m. Ours was £13m, less than half what it was six years ago whilst theirs has doubled.

Claims of being penniless stretch credibility when the numbers show he has blatantly been actively reducing club revenue from sponsors in order to paint our stadium red and blue.

This pre-season just gone is the most extraordinary example, whilst other clubs are jetting off to areas of the world who are utterly obsessed with the Premier League to try and sell shirts (which clearly works), we are heading to some of the UK's most deprived areas to try and advertise pay day loans.

NB/ newer figures may be available

Anyway, Man Utd have had a bid of £28m turned down for Fellaines from Everton

apparently the offer for Fellaini was only 16m when the release clause was 22m a few weeks ago, and that means the offer for baines was the exact same as the original one which was rejected. Thats just insulting seriously wtf is up with Man Utd and transfers this summer the new chief exec can't be that bad at it surely

Pablo Osvaldo is a very good signing imo, event for 15m.

Just new strikers all over the place, bar us, watching Seville/Madrid, they both sold their best striker but sure enough at least they replaced them with Bacca/Villa respectively. We act like theirs very few strikers in the world and the ones we want are always the most complicated to get done. Embarrassing.

We have signed a moderately good one, like. Unfortunately, we didn't pay his full market value. I'd feel so much better about signing him if we'd paid £10m+.

Spurs are having an amazing window.

All their new guys looked great today, and these two would be fantastic additions.

In what way? Saw nothing from Paulinho, Chadli was the most anonymous player on the pitch and Soldado isolated throughout the game. Capoue looked very good when he came on, but other than that there wasn't much positive about any of them.

Still think they'll all be great signings, but yesterdays performance was very much Spurs of last season without the last minute winner from Bale.

Great post.

Superb post. I'd be really interested in a thorough analysis of what has been done to our finances since Ashley took over. Seems as if the club is losing commercial revenue in order for Sports Direct to advertise for free. What he did to SJP in terms of SD signs should have cost a fortune?

It was the first game! I could certainly see the potential in their new signings.

As I just said in another thread, they need to drop Sigurdsson. He was very average playing off the front man.

I'd have Capoue as the holding midfielder with Dembele and Paulinho driving forward in a three man midfield.

Sigurdsson wasn't able to link the midfield and forwards at all. He's so feeble, and can't drive past anyone. This was a big part of the problem yesterday.

If Sigurdsson isn't shooting he is quite average.

BTW (I know it's not really on topic but fuck it) in the six year period that Mike Ashley has been using NUFC as the advertising wing of his company, the share price of said company has gone from 36p to £6.36.

And some people still think it's right and proper for him to take the full value of his loan back in cash ahead of buying any players despite the fact his company is now 17 times more valuable, largely as a result of the millions of pounds worth of free advertising we've given him.

Who are these people in the bit bolded that want to pay off the debt before buying any players? I find it hard to believe you haven't just made that up.

If not...

Do really think Sports Direct's success is "largely" because of the advertising through us? That's ridiculous IMO.

It's successful because it sells clothes/shoes/junk fecking cheap when people are skint. Imo.

Exactly, that and the failure of all competitors.
